The library subscribes to several databases. Agreements ensure that students and staff at Østfold University College can search for free via the university web.
Access from home/ external access
You may access the databases from home, via VPN or with the use of Feide password and username. Some of the databases are accessed free of charge on the internet, e.g. ORIA.
Please contact Help Desk if you need help to use VPN on your computer.
Type of databases
There are several types of databases. Those most commonly used for information search are fact databases, full text databases, and bibliographical databases.
- Fact databases are e.g. the Oxford English Dictionary.
- Full text databases give you the document itself, e.g. the bases from Wiley Online Library (journal articles) or Ebsco eBooks (books).
- Bibliographical databases provide only references to books or articles.
ORIA contains journal articles. If you are searching for journal articles you also can use the article databases. When you find a reference to an interesting article, you have to search for the journal title in Oria to see if the library at Østfold University College holds that journal. If not, the article may be ordered from another library.
