As recently local networks with small power distributive systems to supply residential, office building and municipal, or farm units are in the progress. Such networks are preferable for island operation to supply with onsite generation internal loads but may also have power connection with the main electrical system. The technology used in such microgrids is small wind generators, PV solar panel systems, micro hydro units, micro gas turbines, fuel cells, CHP units and some others [1-8]. Until now a number of papers, describing advantages of rather novel idea to organize electrical power supply on regional level through creation of microgrid with traditional and renewable sources as well as developing smart properties of created microgid were presented. This paper is concentrated on study of a hybrid (combined) microgrid with AC and DC bus system with two main renewable sources of power as wind generator and PV-solar panel system.

This paper addresses challenges part of the shift of paradigm taking place in the way we produce, transmit and use power related to what is known as smart grids. The aim of this paper is to explore present initiatives to establish smart grids as a sustainable and reliable power supply system. We argue that smart grids are not isolated to abstract conceptual models alone. We suggest that establishing sustainable and reliable smart grids depend on series of contributions including modeling and simulation projects, technological infrastructure pilots, systemic methods and training, and not least how these and other elements must interact to add reality to the conceptual models. We present and discuss three initiatives that illuminate smart grids from three very different positions. First, the new power grid simulator project in the electrical engineering PhD program at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Second, the new smart grids infrastructure pilot run by the Norwegian Centers of Expertise Smart Energy Markets (NCE SMART). And third, the new systemic Master program on next generation energy technology at Østfold University College (HiØ). These initiatives represent future threads in a mesh embedding smart grids in models, technology, infrastructure, education, skills and people.

Dursun, Kamil (2013). Oil and winding temperature control in power transformers. International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives.
ISSN 2155-5516.
Show summary
The temperature of oil and paper is crucial in power transformers. In the case of high temperature, the insulation can carbonise and produce gasses, reducing the lifetime of the transformer drastically. One method of effective cooling of windings is to introduce barriers so that the oil flows between discs and not around them as it would do otherwise. This method is well known but an analytical approach would be in place in order to estimate the accurate result of placement of such barriers. In this paper, the Finite Element program COMSOL is used to make such calculations and decide the optimal placement of barriers in a winding. It has been shown that even few barriers reduce the oil and paper temperature significantly. A method to make such calculations is introduced.

Show summary
Power transformer losses are important to estimate and measure both for producers and for utilities. The question becomes even more critical when the power transformer is carrying load currents with harmonics. It is important to be able to calculate the load losses accurately in order to be able to estimate hot spot temperatures and total losses during operation. Finite Element methods are well known and well proven during the last 40 years. Producers usually have proprietary programs that are developed and used in house. These programs are restricted and are not available for academic research. In this paper, a parametric model of a power transformer is made in COMSOL so that important dimensions of transformers can be entered to yield realistic loss calculations.

Show summary
In this paper we try to introduce the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and its application in Economic Dispatch ED). In the step one we present theory and performance of ant colony and its history and its application in various applications and how work the ant colony algorithm. In step two we present ant colony optimization include Basic Concept, Ant Searching Behavior, Path Retracing and Pheromone Updating, Pheromone Trail Evaporation, and in the overall view we present theory of Ant Colony completely. In step three we present general Ant Colony Algorithm step by step for solving any problem, but each problem will have specific formulation. In step four we have “Economic Dispatch Problem Formulation” that we present how this formulation for ED problems do, so by study this section you can do ED problem with Ant Colony Optimization and expand it for big problems. In step five we have present of simple ED problem and it’s simulating and comparing with Genetic Algorithm result and Lagrangian method result with Matlab programing tool that this program presented in this paper attachment. To end we have “Conclusion” and references that can be useful for more study about ACO.

In this paper we try to present Genetic Algorithm and how to use it for solving Economic Dispatch problem. In the first section, we present on what basis does it work, and why Genetic Algorithm (GA) is useful and what problems can be solved by it. In the second section, we present theory of GA like representation of design variables, representation of objective function and constraints, genetic operators, and in third section we review the GA steps for solving problem, and in fourth section we present classic Economic Dispatch by Genetic Algorithm and how to use it for solving ED problems, like present of constraints and variables. In fifth section we use MATLAB programing tool for write a simple program for solving a simple problem of ED that written program presented in paper attachment. In sixth section we compare results of GA and Lagrangian method for compare GA performance. To end we have conclusion of this paper.
