Ongoing project

Digital technologi in mathematics in primary school teacher education

This project focuses on Norwegian preservice teachers' understandings about how digital technologies could be used in mathematics teaching and learning.

Background

Many municipalities in Norway have startet bying digital learning resources to their primary and lower secondary schools. As a result of this, the teachers need expertise in sensible use of such learning resources. It is thereby important that the teacher students get this knowledge before they enter the school as educated teachers.

Main issues

The project have two main issues:

  1. How do preservice teachers evaluate digital technologies in regard to supporting school students’ learning about spatial abilities?
  2. How do preservice teachers evaluate digital technologies in regard to how they incorporate cultural knowledge into spatial ability learning experiences?

The results of the project will be used in teaching teacher students use of digital learning resources.

Project periode

This is a two-year project. I startet up in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2020.

Project manager is Tasmin Meaney at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

Finances

Centre of Research, Innovation and Coordination of Mathematics Teaching (MatRic) supports the project with 25 000 Euro.
