Academic interests

My principal research now is connected to a project called Identity, Migration and Exile. Looking for a Promised Land in Latin American and Spanish Literature. This project analyzes the connection between migration, poverty and political conflicts in Latin America, especially through authors who have largely been ignored or dismissed from their national literature. My focus is on Ecuadorian Literature. Researching about the unexplored cases of Migrant Literature is a necessary task for filling the vacuum that still exists in relation to the Contemporary Latin American and Spanish Literature. A book with academic articles was published in July 2017.

Background

I have studied at the Pontifical Catholic University of Quito (PUCE), University of Bergen, University of Aarhus, University of Newcastle and New York University. I have a Certificate of Inter-American Studies (PUCE), a degree in Communication and Literature (PUCE), a Master's in Creative Literature (New York University), and a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies, with a major in Literature (University of Bergen).

My PhD research was about literary plagiarism and intertextuality. My study evaluated the concept of “plagiarism” from the viewpoint of Gerard Genette’s transtextuality and developed a methodology for textual comparison.
