Summary: This book tells the story of two young children living on an island in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. One day, they find an abandoned lamb on the shoreline. They take the little lamb home, feeds her and takes special care of her. They call the lamb Uan which means “lamb” in Gaelic. Slowly the lamb grows up, and the children take Uan into the fields to play with the other lambs. When Uan is a full-grown sheep, she wants to be with the other sheep. Another year goes by, and Uan has her own little lamb. The water-colour illustrations depict the landscape of the Hebrides.
