Stacey finds comfort in words when she is alone or things are hard. One day, the teacher asks her to participate in a spelling competition together with a boy from her class, Jake. Jake is not a very nice boy; he often says mean things to the other students and sometimes he says hurtful things to her. At the competition, Jake and Stacey are the two competitors in the final. Jake wins, and Stacey is so unhappy. But her mother supports her and says “You only fail if you stop. Let’s go home and learn more words.”
