Valid documentation

Valid documentation for admission to study programs Master in Applied Computer Science and Master in Green Energy Technology through local admission procedures at Østfold University College.

Make sure you have read all the information before submitting your application. You can only apply if all admission requirements are met. The admission requirements are listed at each study program under the button “Apply for this programme”. HiØ will not process incomplete applications.

Important information - before uploading your documents

  • For applications submitted in SøknadsWeb, all documents must be uploaded electronically using the tab “My document”. Only upload what is required. Unrequested documents will not be taken into consideration and will only delay the assessment of your application. We recommend that you prepare all your documents before submitting your application.
  • Only upload official documents. Student copies/unofficial transcripts are not official documents.
  • We recommend that you upload your documentation in PDF format. Documents consisting of several pages must be scanned together into one PDF file. Documents must be clear, legible, and appear right-side up. All documentation must be valid documentation.
  • We do not accept documents via e-mail or post unless explicitly requested by us. Never send originals by post; these will not be returned. Paper documents do not need to be certified true copies, but hard copies are required from certain countries. Please find more information below about documenting higher education.
  • Name your files as instructed below and upload documents under the­ required mandatory document category. You will find more important information under each category´s requirements below. It is possible to upload more than one document under the same category.
  • All mandatory categories must have a green checkmark. If you do not have a green checkmark on all mandatory categories, we will not process your application.
  • ­It is the applicant's responsibility to upload all required documents within the deadline. We do not ask for missing documents. Incomplete applications will be rejected regardless of academic qualifications. The document deadline can be seen under “My application” on SøknadsWeb. Applicants cannot upload documents past the application deadline.
  • Check your uploaded documents under the tab “My Documents” in SøknadsWeb. If you have applied in previous years, you must upload your documents again using the correct and mandatory required document categories and make sure that all the categories have a green checkmark.

Submission of fraudulent documents is illegal and will be reported to the appropriate authorities.By applying to Østfold University College you ­allow Østfold University College to verify the authenticity of your documentation. Østfold University College maintains the right to contact governments, agencies, institutions_ and other associations to verify your documents.

Everyone who applies for admission to study programs at Østfold University College may be asked to present the original documents for control. Students are obliged to present the original documents at a stipulated time and place; failure to do so means that you will lose your place.

English Language Requirement

Applicants to our international master programs must document proficiency in English. 

To document English proficiency, you must satisfy one of the following:

  • Passed the subject English at a Norwegian upper secondary school (140 hours) and been awarded an average grade of 3 or better, or
  • International English Language Test Service (IELTS), with a minimum overall band score of 6.0 (academic test), or
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), HiØ code 6240 with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 80 (internet-based), or
  • Pearson PTE Academic test, with a minimum overall score of 58, or
  • Cambridge ESOL Examinations, First Certificate in English with a grade of B or better, Certificate in Advanced English or Certificate of Proficiency in English, or
  • Completed university degree in the subject English language or literature, or
  • Completed bachelor’s degree taught in English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA (the degree must have been physically taught in one of these countries).

Other approved documentation of English language tests may be subject to an individual and discretionary assessment.

If you are unable to submit documentation of English proficiency by the application deadline, you must upload a confirmation that you are either registered for an approved test or that you will complete the qualifying education before the given deadline. The confirmation must be uploaded to your online application by the application deadline. 

Higher education

Higher education must be documented by the submission of a dated and signed transcript of grades and diploma. The document must be issued by the institution where you completed your education. A transcript from StudentWeb is not valid documentation.

 

Diploma: Name your PDF files bachelor or/and master.
Transcript: Name your PDF files bachelortranscr or/and mastertranscr.

Upload it to the mandatory required documents category: Diploma and transcript of Records from Higher Education.

 

Higher education taken outside the Nordic countries must be documented by the submission of a dated and signed diploma/certificate and a transcript of grades in the original language. If the original language is not English or a Nordic language, you must also enclose an official translation.

If you are in the process of completing qualifying education in the same semester that admissions are taking place, you must upload a dated and signed transcript of grades for completed and passed courses, and a dated and signed confirmation that you have registered for exams in the remaining courses.

Applicants who only have education from Østfold University College only need to submit documentation of their education if the education was completed before 2005.


Documents to be sent as hard copies by post

Applicants with degrees from: Cameroon, Canada, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Nigeria, the Philippines and the USA must send their transcripts and diploma of bachelor’s and undergraduate education as hard copies directly from the relevant college/university, in addition to uploading them online.

Proof of Funding

Applicants from countries outside of the EU/EEA must submit proof of funding when applying for admission. The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration stipulates the amount required to be granted a residence permit for study purposes.

The current amount is NOK 128 887 (updated 04.05.2022). 

HiØ does not offer scholarships, and all students must be self-financed.

 

Funding can be documented with one of the following:

  • A recent official bank statement or bank transcript in your own name. The bank statement can’t be dated before September 1 the same year as admission deadlines in December. The bank statement or bank transcript can show any currency, as long as it is clear from the statement which currency is being used.

  • A sponsor guarantee letter and a sponsor's recent official bank statement/transcript. A sponsor is someone willing to finance your living costs during your studies. The guarantee letter should state that the sponsor is willing to transfer the required amount upon your admission to Østfold University College. 
  • A letter confirming that you are eligible for a scholarship or student loan from your home country.

Documentation of financing should not be older than three months at the time of the application and must be uploaded to the application portal within the application deadline. All documents must be in English or a Scandinavian language.

All documentation, including bank statements/transcripts and letters, must be signed and dated. Official bank documents must also be stamped.

Tertiary vocational education

Tertiary vocational education must be documented by the submission of a dated and signed certificate from the institution where you completed your tertiary vocational education.

Upper secondary school

Upper secondary education must be documented by the submission of a dated and signed certificate of competence or certificate of upper secondary education. A transcript of the examination record is normally not valid documentation.

Upper secondary education taken outside the Scandinavian countries must be documented by a dated and signed certificate from the upper secondary school in the original language. If the original language is not English or a Scandinavian language, you must also enclose an official translation.

Essay

Applicants to the Master in Green Energy Technology must submit an essay as part of their application.

Requirements for Personal Essay:

  • For the profile choice with specialisation in Smart Energy Technology, a short essay (max 400 words) where you describe with your own words the role and recent advancements of Distributed Energy Resources integration into Smart Grids.
  • For the profile choice with specialisation in Materials for Energy Technology, A short essay (max 400 words) where you describe in your own words a way to utilize a material to help achieve a more sustainable future.

Name the PDF file Essay and upload it to the mandatory required documents category: Essay.

This essay will be subject to electronic plagiarism control. Applications, where essays do not pass the plagiarism control, will not be considered for admission to the program.

All applicants who meet the formal requirements must also pass an online entrance test.

 

Name change

Any name change must be documented. Documentation of name change must be uploaded if your name appears different in any of your documentation.
