The student's learning outcomes on passing the course

Knowledge

The student

  • understands the basics of electronic circuits.
  • can recognize and use different electronic components.
  • kan apply basic methods to analyze and calculate circuit behavior.

Skills

The student

  • can perform calculations and simulations for electronic circuits.
  • can build and test basic circuits.
  • can use equipment to measure and interpret results in lab settings.
  • can read, interpret, and create basic documentation for electronic circuits.

General competence

The student

  • can communicate effectively with others using electronic engineering terminology.
  • understands how electronics is applied in real-world situations.

Teaching and learning methods

The teaching is conducted as lectures, theoretical exercises and practical assignments in the laboratory.

Workload

250-300 hours

Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam

  • 3-5 laboratory assignments
  • 2-3 problem analyses and theoretical tasks
  • Case study (report)

The compulsory laboratory assignments, problem analyses, and theoretical tasks are assessed as pass/fail. These assignments must be approved, and the case report must be submitted, before the student is eligible to take the exam.

Exam

The course consists of two examination parts:

Part 1: Case Study (report)

  • Weighting: 25%
  • Format: Group assignment (1-3 students).
  • Description: The purpose of the assignment is to prepare students for professional challenges and motivate a proactive approach to problem-solving. Detailed instructions and guidelines will be published by the course coordinator at the start of the semester.

Part 2: Written Examination (on campus)

  • Weighting: 75%
  • Format: Individual, 4 hours.
  • Permitted aids: Calculator with empty memory (no symbolic calculation or wireless communication capability), and a personal formula sheet (maximum 10 pages).

Grading rule: A-F is used for both sub-examinations. Both sub-examinations must be passed to receive a grade in the course. An overall individual grade in the course is awarded according to the A-F grading scale

Examiners

Internal or external censorship

Conditions for resit/rescheduled exams

  • If part 1 is failed: A re‑examination (new/deferred exam) will be held at the next regular examination session. The report may be rewritten once.
  • If part 2 is failed: HiØ’s rules for re‑examination/new or deferred exams apply.
  • If you wish to improve your grade in part 1 and/or part 2, the student must register for the next regular examination. The report can not be rewritten for this purpose.

Course evaluation

Continous evaluation of the teaching during the semester in which evaluation method is agreed upon between the teacher (-s) and students.

Written final evaluation of the course.
