Coursework requirements - conditions for taking the exam
Exam
The exam consists of two components: A Written Master's Thesis and an Oral Examination.
The Master's Thesis is written individually and is followed by an individual oral examination.
The thesis will be graded with a preliminary mark from A to F, which can be adjusted during the oral examination. The written Masters's thesis must be passed (A-E) before the oral exam can take place.
During the oral exam, the candidate first presents the Master's thesis and then defends it (approcimately 45 minutes). The oral examination is public.
The oral exam is included in the overall assessment of the master's thesis. The grade may be adjusted if the candidate's oral performance provides a basis for it. The entire grading scale can be used, but major deviations from the written assessment require a specific academic justification.
If the student decides to appeal the preliminary grade, the thesis must be reevaluated. If the new evaluation affects the preliminary grade of the thesis, a new oral examination will be arranged.
Plagiarism/cheating control: Master's theses are subject to electronic plagiarism checks. Exam submissions that are partially or entirely identical will not be approved and will be considered cheating. For more information, please refer to the examination regulations of Østfold University College.
