AreaS Seminar: Fact-Checking in Wartime: What Role for Truth in Conflict?

How can we navigate through fake news and misinformation in war and conflict? Elin Strand Larsen and Samba Dialimpa Badji present their chapters in the edited volume prepared by the AreaS research group and recently published by Waxmann: "Trust under Threat - Challenges in a Digital Society" (Orban, Strand Larsen & Lindahl, 2024).

ELIN STRAND LARSEN is Associate Professor at Østfold University College,
Norway, with a background in Media and Communication Studies. In her chapter, she investigates how fact-checkers in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark manage fake news and disinformation related to an escalating conflict and war far away from home.

SAMBA DIALIMPA BADJI is a Research Fellow with DDMAC Project and a
Ph.D. Candidate at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway, with a background
in journalism and fact-checking. In his chapter, he argues that the polarization of the society in Mali is a challenge for fact-checkers trying to convince the audience of the trustworthiness and use-fulness of their work.

Head of AreaS Franck Orban moderates the seminar.
