PhD Programme

Digitalisation and Society

Background

I have a diverse background, having worked as a barn-assistant, a courier driver, a co-owner of a transport company, and a store manager in a toy store. I am also a mother of two children, one of whom has a rare chronic condition. My interest in holistic care for individuals requiring lifelong follow-up in the healthcare system stems from 20 years of continuous efforts to secure appropriate care for my daughter. This has developed into both a personal and professional commitment.

I completed my nursing education between 2012 and 2016, with my bachelor's thesis focusing on nurses’ experiences of treating adolescents with chronic illnesses in a paediatric ward.

After graduating, I worked in home nursing and in a respite care facility for children and young people with significant chronic physical and cognitive needs, including palliative care within the same facility.

In 2017, I began a part-time Master's degree in Advanced Nursing in Chronic Illness. My master's thesis explored patients’ experiences of follow-up care from specialist health services for the chronic condition PCD (Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia) across different regions of Norway.

Since November 2021, I have been employed in the Bachelor of Nursing programme in Fredrikstad and contributed to the establishment of the new decentralised Bachelor of Nursing programme, located at the Mysen/Indre Østfold campus from the autumn of 2022. We began teaching the first classes in August of 2024.

As of August 2025, I have started a 75% doctoral research fellowship at Østfold University College.

Academic Interests

I have many academic interests. My main passion is ensuring that individuals with chronic illnesses can experience a good quality of life and receive comprehensive, lifelong follow-up care within the healthcare system. Understanding the connection and importance between living with a chronic somatic illness from childhood and continuity of care from public health services is a key area for me.

My background in municipal healthcare has given me experiences that sparked an interest in contributing to the development of services and in teaching, particularly through supervising students during their placements.

Additionally, digital tools, the ethics surrounding their use, and the need for research on the effects of their implementation have become increasingly important to me in recent years. This interest has led me to the PhD programme at Østfold University College.

Teaching

Since 01.11.2021, I have been involved in several modules within the full-time Bachelor of Nursing programme as a supervisor and clinical instructor.

During the academic year 2023/2024, I completed UH-pedagogy, focusing on the use of the "Flipped Classroom"-teaching method. This has been valuable in planning of the pedagogical platform for the nursing education in Mysen. At the same time, a colleague and I developed a "Study-start Calendar" to support first-year nursing students with neccesary information and small tasks during the weeks between being accepted to the program at ØUC and the start of the academic year.

From 01.08.2024, I have worked full-time on launching the full-time decentralised Bachelor of Nursing programme in Mysen. I was responsible for the first-year cohort during the 2024/2025 academic year, with course responsibility for two theoretical courses, and I will continue with responsibility for one theoretical course for the first-year students during my period as Doctoral Research Fellow.
