Objective for this summer school will be to provide to the students with a comprehensive understanding of circularity and sustainability in building envelopes, focusing on assessment methods, digital tools, sustainable materials, and techno-economic feasibility. The school is open to both master and PhD students as well as R&D researchers from the industry. The students will get a certificate confirming participation in the school, with a workload equivalent to 2 ECTS. The ECTS has to be validated at their own institutions.

Modules

1. Environmental assessment and standardization at materials and building level

- Harmonization between countries, standards and policies

- Sustainabiliy assessment of buildings

2. Advanced and renewable insulation materials for energy efficient envelopes:

- Bio-based materials: hemp, wood fiber boards, mycelium

- High performance sustainable composites: aerogels, PCMs

- Full-scale testing and performance validation

3.Digital modelling and assessment tools for circular envelope design:

- Energy efficiency, indoor climate- case studies from demos

- SNUG Digital Tool Assistant

4. Relevance of Life Cycle Costing for advanced insulation materials

- Integration of LCC and LCA

- Circular and service-based business models
