Cathrine Linnes, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science, Engineering and Economics at Østfold University College, Norway. Dr. Linnes has been a faculty member and program chair for the master and bachelor programs in information systems at Hawaii Pacific University, faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University, and faculty member at Kapiolani Community College in the United States. She holds several years of industry experience.

Interests: Digital society, economic sustainability, sustainable tourism, higher education, applied technology.

Learning Center

I hold a 20% position at the Learning Center and work with faculty to enhance their teaching and learning experience and explore best practices, new techniques and innovative technologies. I primarily work with faculty on Inspera the platform for digital exams. I am well versed with the learning platforms Canvas, Blackboard and Brightspace. The learning centre team keeps abreast of the literature on teaching and learning, to synthesize and share this information, and to create spaces where discussion, research and development can take place. I am familiar with SPSS used for statistical data analysis along with network analysis and visualization software. The team holds multiple workshops throughout the year as well as create online materials on technology in the classroom. I focus on competitive learning, team teaching, flipping the classroom, project-based learning, student portfolios, among other topics.

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine the trend towards purchasing locally grown food and evaluate if tourists to Hawai´i are willing to pay more for locally source foods which are more ecologically sustainable. Design - This research questionnaire investigates the attitudes and behaviors of tourists from the continental United States visiting Hawai’i. The final sample includes 454 valid survey responses that were collected via Momentive, a market research services company. Findings - The results of this study determined that there are economic opportunities to further integrate sustainable food consumption and production into the experience of tourist’s and there is a willingness to support these activities financially from the tourist. The Contingent Valuation study revealed that tourists from the continental United States were willing to pay an additional cost to encourage the use of sustainable tourism goods in Hawai'i, including paying more for locally grown food, indicating that they would be willing to increase their restaurant/hotel food bill in order to support Hawai‘i´s local farming industry. Research limitations/implications – While tourists from the United States mainland, which are the Hawaiian islands’ top tourist market have agreed with paying more for locally grown food products, this study might not accurately represent the attitudes and behaviors of international tourists. Future research should focus on international tourist markets with a variety of economic, social, and geographical settings to broaden the generalizability of the current study's findings. Originality/Value - This study addresses a gap in the tourism research literature by giving quantitative evidence of United States visitors' interest in purchasing locally grown food items as well as their willingness to pay an additional fee for locally grown food products at a restaurant or hotel.

Social Mobile Analytics and Cloud – SMAC the new abbreviation that every business leader is thinking off. It is also part of everyone's lives these days. SMAC technologies are creating enormous opportunities across industries while the consumer willingly gives up personal information. Cloud technologies have made it possible to collect and store such large amounts of data. While each of these four technologies are able to enhance the business on its own, using these four technologies together as a stack has changed the way businesses are looking to maximize their customer base, enhance brand value and off course, increase company profit. For example, SMAC has forced businesses leaders to make analytics part of their marketing strategy and business operation as a whole.

This article presents a systematic literature on the use of information technology within the field of maritime shipping. First,the review scope, the search terms, the data sources, the search process, the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the data extraction and analysis procedures are presented. The findings show that RFID is still reported to be in its infancy. Truck appointment system might only work in certain situations as truck drivers might not have a choice of when to pick up its container. There is no centralization of the operation. Creating a digital dashboard to display potential wait-time based on past days truck companies can better plan their day if they have the chance to do so. The benefits of such system are to offer real-time information to its users. Digitalization also allows for predictive analytics to take place this takes the process to another level.

The economic impact of film induced tourism is of great interest to governments,tourist authorities, local businesses as well as residents. Film tourismreveals a positive economic impact on a featured location. This studyinvestigates Walt Disney´s animated film Frozen and the impact the film has ontourism in Norway. Although the movie Frozen takes place infictional Arendelle, movie producers incorporated Norwegian inspiredscenery, imagery, and culture throughout the film. This study wasconducted through an electronic survey with over 1,000 participants who sharedtheir attitudes towards tourism and the effect movie tourism has upon adestination. The open-ended questions where analyzed through the application oftext mining to better understand participants’ perceptions.
