  Introduction: School refusal poses significant challenges to children's education and wellbeing. Despite increased public, political and scholarly attention, there remains limited systematic knowledge about available interventions, in particular digital interventions. This scoping review therefore aims to identify and describe the range and nature of treatment interventions for school refusal, with a specific focus on digital approaches. Methods: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Eligible studies were empirical, peer-reviewed articles published in 1993 or later that examined interventions for school refusal among children and adolescents. Screening and data extraction were completed independently in pairs. The data was analyzed descriptively, utilizing an adapted TIDieR framework applied to intervention reporting. Results: Thirty-one studies published between 1998 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria. Research activity increased notably from 2018 onward and was dominated by quantitative designs conducted primarily in Western, high-income contexts. Most interventions were cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)-based, delivered individually, in groups, or as multimodal programs, sometimes combined with pharmacological treatment. CBT interventions generally reported improved school attendance, although effect sizes and durability varied. Only six studies (19%) incorporated digital components, including remote therapeutic delivery, virtual reality exposure, serious games, and online parent coaching. These interventions were feasible and acceptable but showed limited evidence of direct effects on school attendance. Outcome measures were heterogeneous, though school attendance and anxiety symptoms were most consistently reported. Conclusion: The evidence-base on interventions for school refusal is growing but remains fragmented, with an underrepresentation of digital approaches. Existing digital interventions predominantly target the individual or family rather than school environments or the interaction between the individual, their family and the school environment. Future research should explore how digital tools can support integrated and systemic school-refusal approaches that address individual, family and school-related factors over time.

  This chapter reflects on two teaching episodes, separated by 15 years, from courses on Diversity and Intercultural Communication. The first vignette recounts an early-career classroom collapse, explored through three phases of self-reflexive processing: initial defensiveness, followed by deeper emotional inquiry using feminist theories on affect and perspectives from psychoanalytic theory and education. The second case, shaped by years of pedagogical training, presents a cooperative learning session integrating theory and student-centred activities. The two cases illustrate how teaching, as a dynamic practice, can never be planned in detail as it involves moments of unique and unforeseen contact between bodies, emotions and individuals who are moved and engaged by each other in various and sometimes unexpected ways.

  Background: Social media and other digital platforms are becoming significant sources of health, fitness, and nutrition information for young people. This underlines the need to examine the potential consequences of such information practices for young people’s health knowledge, their relationship to their bodies, and their wellbeing. Aim: Using a sociocultural approach to literacy, this article examines how young people understand, experience, and engage with health information mediated through digital technologies. Methods: Five activity-based focus group interviews were organized with 14–17-year-olds as part of a pilot project informing a broader study about health information and critical literacies. Results: Content about fitness, nutrition, and body image constituted a dominant part of the health-related information the participants encountered on social media. The participants were aware of algorithmic processes that produced health information and affirmed their ability to evaluate the quality of content on social media. They were critical of but accepted being the object of surveillance and data capture. Participants were critical of health narratives on social media by highlighting the unhealthy practices of influencers and questioning perfect body ideals. However, they still aspired to these “perfect” masculine and feminine body ideals. Discussion and conclusion: The study highlights the affective, situated, and relational nature of young people’s health literacy practices. This reflects the tensions, contradictions and ambivalences that are an integral part of the wider youth digital culture.

  I denne litteraturgjennomgangen om incels og nettsamfunn ønsker vi å øke kunnskapen om et fenomen som det er begrenset forskning på. Incels (akronym fra det engelske involuntary celibate) utgjør en ny distinkt nettbevegelse som definerer seg som ekstreme kvinnehatere, og som lever i ufrivillig sølibat. Gjennomgangen viser at nettfellesskapet rundt kvinnehatet har økt i omfang og blitt mer ekstremt det siste tiåret. Utover dette består incel-ideologien av flere selvmotsigende ideer om kjønn, seksualitet og maskulinitet. Det er behov for mer forskning på incels, særlig flere kvalitative og etnografiske dybdestudier med incels’ egne stemmer. Slike studier kan belyse hva fenomenet incels kan være symptom på i vår samtid, samt utforske nyansene og de ofte motstridende diskursene rundt kjønn og seksualitet i mannosfæren.   This article looks at Norwegian men who identify with living in involuntary celibacy. It is a qualitative study basedon interviews with seven Norwegian men and provides new knowledge about a phenomenon that has been scarcelyresearched in Norway. Overall, the article examines connections between the participants’ negotiations about genderand masculinity, and their relationships to online anti-feminist forums. The analysis draws on masculinity theory andthe concept ofhybrid masculinityto examine the distancing from and negotiation with different masculinities. Thearticle argues that online anti-feminist forums are of little interest or relevance to the participants.

  When people experience rare medical conditions or variations, searching online may be the only way to find others with similar experiences. This study examines what happens when people do just that. The dataset for the research has been generated from online posts by people living with variations of sex characteristics, which some call intersex variations. Our analysis focuses on how emotion appears in online posts, how affect becomes embodied in digital contexts, and how norms are negotiated as people relate to one another about the variations that some of them experience. We offer an analysis grounded in digital affect theory to contribute to health research literature. We suggest how health researchers and healthcare providers might develop more nuanced understandings of the emotional realities of people living with variations of sex characteristics.

  How do young people interpret and negotiate their sense of being affected in the context of social media use? Our study draws on recent theorizing that views affective practices as discursive, relational, and imbued with power. We specifically address practices that users engage in as they pursue forms of digitally mediated emotional involvement when using Snapchat, an image-based social media application. Our data consist of focus group dialogues with Norwegian students aged 16-19, recruited from schools selected for socio-economic and multicultural diversity. Excerpts exemplify how Snapchat use is not only engagingly talked about, but also affects non-digital everyday interactions. The analysis illustrates how young people’s talk about Snapchat deploys various discursive objects that convey promises of happiness and well-being, and affords particular forms of subjectivity. Image-sharing practices, and how they are communicated and felt, are embedded in and reproduce social norms, yet also provide spaces of belonging.

  This article explores the consequences of ethnographic practice when social and mobile media are used both as tools for research and sites of study. We draw on incidents from our fieldwork practice to reflect on the research intimacies that are produced when digital media technologies bring different spheres of researchers’ worlds in close proximity. We show how managing the unstable rhythms and temporal structures of ethnographic fieldwork practice might involve dispensing a considerable amount of affective energy.

  This article addresses questions about local policies towards economic migrants in Western Norway. It refers to statistical data mapping the population of economic migrants over time, but the emphasis is on an analysis of documents and web pages together with interviews with civil servants, economic migrants, civil sector representatives and employers from four counties and eight municipalities. The article seeks to identify policies which can be detected from the local offer of welfare services. These policies are discussed, drawing mainly on Alexander’s (2003) theory concerning local policies for economic migration. The dilemma for local authorities is that they do not know the length of time for which the economic migrants will settle. Findings are that public services at all levels show limited interest in the specific needs of economic migrants, that there is a focus on immediate needs, and the absence of a longer view. It is suggested that these policies should be termed ‘reactive pluralism’. The discussion includes the view that the entire situation would improve considerably if economic migrants were given more support and targeted more directly as a group. This could be done through applying local, pluralistic and citizenship-based welfare policies in which economic migrants are approached as if they planned to stay.

  This article works across psychology and feminist media studies to offer an empirically grounded investigation of affective expression in social media. To work empirically with understandings of affect and to examine affective engagements via social media, we explore Instagram fans’ responses to the Norwegian TV series Skam (translation: “shame”). We draw on feminist theoretical perspectives on affectivity and emotion, and critical psychological perspectives on well-being. We ask: how are affect and emotion woven through contributors’ expressions, what do contributors write about their sense of belonging, and what is hoped for through affective engagement? By analyzing contributors’ writing about their experiences of how Skam has affected their lives, this study illustrates how contributors to social media produce the idea of life as radically open to transformation. This analysis demonstrates how passionately imagined connections create new opportunities for becoming and belonging

  Abstract This chapter focuses on different ‘textures’ that form in and around digital intimacy heartbreak – encompassing various forms of heartbreak and sadness, loss and mourning. The reflections in this chapter draw from discursive analysis, online ethnography, qualitative interviews, and workshops with regular users of visual mobile media, carried out between 2013–2016 in South Korea, Spain and Norway. Through a variety of scenarios we seeks to outline some of the multiple ways in which emotional and affective textures resonate within mobile intimacy.   This article focuses on the reception of the image of Alan Kurdi by a group of young volunteers in Oslo and Sheffield, and their understanding of the subsequent civic and political engagement. Methodologically, the study draws on a series of in-depth interviews conducted with a group of young volunteers who saw the photograph when it went viral on Twitter and who had followed the media coverage and participated in on- and offline activities related to the case. To analyse the views of the research participants on the Alan Kurdi case, I draw on feminist theoretical perspectives on affectivity, theoretical literature relating to news images and iconic photography, and online social movement theories. The study shows that the iconic image of Alan Kurdi offered a way of transforming complex and unsettled aspects of the refugee crisis into something concrete and understandable, contributing to galvanize affective resonance and immediate public response among the involved subjects. The infrastructure of social media, enabling the rapid global circulation of the image, contributed to shaping social assemblages to which connective emotions and common meanings were ascribed.

  A trend, where voluntary groups teach children and youth basic computer coding skills, has spread throughout the world. After-school clubs invite children to create games in visual programming environments. The activities emphasize play, while teaching principles of computer science. We explore this phenomenon based on observations and interviews at a code club in Norway, asking whether coding represents an important skill for children and how it is distributed to include all children. We find that coding through play activity is perceived as teaching more than simply the technical skills of programming. Although the fun aspect draws in children and volunteers, parents and instructors describe the code club as being about learning to understand and control the computer, and digital competence required for achieving success in society. The Code Club is described partly as being a ‘necessity for becoming a good/efficient/empowered citizen in our digital society’, and partly as ‘children are playing with computers anyway’. These arguments have different consequences for the gender imbalance at the Code Club. Our findings suggest that the code clubs need an explicit recruitment strategy targeting girls in order to become an arena where girls can develop interest and competence in digital technologies.

  Sunday Dinner tackles who, what, where, when and how we eat. Theoretically speaking, a dinner is a meal that can be shared by anybody, eaten anywhere and in whatever form. However, as the Norwegian food and health researcher Asle Holthe (2004) points out, Sunday dinner is also part of a national story that binds together home and family. Sunday dinner is in many ways an institution: it is a community around a table; a collective act one shares with the family. It is a ritual and a way of being together that almost everybody can relate to, whether one participates or not. This togetherness involves hopes and expectations about a certain story or narrative. A cultural script tells us how the Sunday dinner should be, and how the family should be composed; we could think of this as a ‘familyscript’. This script must be understood as having a normative force, meaning it entails tacit guidelines for how we understand what a family is or should be.

  74 Shamelessly, we unfold our private lives in public. We broadcast new relations, and we end others. On social networking sites, we share pictures with friends and acquaintances while we peep into the lives of siblings, colleagues, lovers and ex-lovers. Many of us don’t even look secretively.   Being one of the most ritualised and coded images we have, the family photo has maintained its status and privilege as the visual, self-acclaimed collective family heirloom throughout the decades. In spite of the fact that new family forms have challenged the conventional nuclear family structure and function, the family picture has predominantly remained the same: smiling children, parents, uncles and aunts at unmistakably happy moments. Today, all Norwegian teenagers have their own camera telephone, which facilitates a multiplicity of ways that family narratives can be maintained, expanded and perpetuated. Parents are no longer the sole editors and custodians of the family's visual memories. As young people demand a place as historiographers and intervene in the mediation of family memories and ideologies, the practice of the presentation of the family, its social function and significance are undergoing changes. Based on analysis of in-depth interviews with twenty-three Norwegian teenagers and a sample of their camphone family pictures, this article examines how camphone family pictures make possible new articulations of the family, articulations that perhaps are more in accordance with the changes that already are underway in the functions of families. In terms of these phenomena the article discusses how new technologies of the self affect conventions and understandings of the family and how “new” and plural family pictures, filed in each individual's private digital archives, affect the coming family narratives.

  In this article we argue that the concept of genre has a valuable function within sociological theory, particularly for understanding emerging communicative practices within social and personal media. Genres span the whole range of recognizable forms of communication, play a crucial role in overcoming contingency and facilitate communication. Their function is to enhance composing and understanding of communication by offering interpretative, recognizable and flexible frames of reference. As such, genres generate a sense of stability in modern complex societies. Genres ought to be seen as an intermediary level between the levels of media and text, however influenced by both. They operate as interaction between two interdependent dimensions, conventions and expectations, both of which are afforded by media and specific texts. In this article these relationships are illustrated through two cases of emerging personal media genres: the online diary and the camphone self-portrait.

Den handler om hva selfier er, hva de er uttrykk for og hvordan de inngår i hverdagslivet vårt. Særlig oppmerksomhet rettes mot hvordan digital teknologi påvirker vår forståelse av intimitet, kjønn og seksualitet. Boken tar også for seg noen av selfiens forløpere. While much scholarship frames GenAI as an empowering tool, emphasising issues of literacy and skills (Sabherwal & Grover, 2024), other research suggests that its use may also have negative implications for well-being (Hashem et al., 2025). Young adults in NEET situations (not in education, employment, or training), who often face intersecting challenges such as low completion rates of secondary education, socioeconomic disadvantage, and weak institutional and social support, are particularly vulnerable (Fyhn et al., 2021). Building on research on socio-digital inequalities, which demonstrates that digital outcomes are shaped not only by technical skills but also by access to supportive social relations and by the capacity to interpret (Schellewald, 2022), negotiate, and navigate algorithmic systems (Helsper, 2021; Livingstone, 2025), this paper illuminates how such inequalities may be reproduced through everyday uses of GenAI. This study explores how young adults with migrant backgrounds in NEET situations engage with GenAI in their everyday lives, focusing on how such use can be understood as a form of affective labour. Drawing on science and technology studies, particularly Susan Leigh Star’s work on invisible work and marginality, the paper illuminates GenAI use as embedded in everyday forms of affective labour, coping with isolation, and managing uncertainty in precarious life situations. Rather than focusing on access or skills alone, drawing on qualitative interviews with 25 young people aged 16–29 in Neet situations, this paper highlights how inequalities rooted in non-supportive social ties are reproduced through everyday GenAI practices of coping, care, and emotional regulation.

  Based on qualitative life-biographical interviews with international LGBTQ+ adoptees in Norway, this study examines participants’ embodied and subjective experiences of racialisation in general, and sexualised racialisation in particular. Drawing on affect theory, gender studies, critical race theory, and skin studies, we ask: How do international adoptees who challenge norms of gender and sexuality experience discrimination in general and sexualised racialisation in particular? And what subjectivities become possible for adoptees through the ways adoption, gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity are experienced and narrated in both online and offline publics? To address these questions, we ‘follow the feelings’ in the data, focusing on how participants talk about skin and hair.

  The "Queer Games and AI Resistance" workshop invited participants to explore how queerness can enrich research and create space for LGBTQIA+ communities to exercise agency, visibility, and representation, both academically and through creative work. Taking place as part of the Center for Digital Narrative's participation in Bergen Pride, the workshop featured a panel of experts — Daniella Gáti, Lin Prøitz, Joakim Johansen Østbye, and Oliver Haimson — who discussed how research has approached queer and LGBTQIA+ topics. This was followed by an open discussion about methods, gaps, and future directions in the field. The workshop welcomed researchers eager to broaden their understanding of queer topics and their connection to Games and AI, regardless of whether their current work related to queer issues. Additionally, participants who were keen to explore Queer Culture, Queer Knowledge, and Queer Content were encouraged to join.

  All mulighet til langsom tenkning og refleksjon knuses. Det er min første tanke etter å ha gått gjennom studentenes refleksjoner om bruk av KI ved Høgskolen i Østfold. De kjenner selv at de mister muligheten til å vokse og dannes langsomt. Et interessant funn når de sammenligner KI-genererte tekster og med studentskrevne tekster, er at de KI-genererte tekstene fremstår som om det ikke er noen hjemme i teksten. Det uttrykker studentene selv når de reflekterer over høstsemesterets oppgave i kommunikasjonsfag.

  The aim of this paper is to examine issues of researcher’s vulnerability and the emotional labour of conducting ethnography to study sensitive digital cultures.The reflections that we base this paper on were generated as part of a digital ethnography that aimed to examine Norwegian men’s participation in and identifications with Incels online communities and what meanings they give to their actions. It was part of a research project financed by the Norwegian Media Authority (in Norwegian Medietilsynet). The digital ethnography consisted of deep immersion in a sample of sites such as reddit and 4chan which featured content in Norwegian and which were visited by users from Norway. The paper explores the ethics and politics of researching Incels online communities considering researchers’ reflexivity and the methodological challenges of accessing and drawing the boundaries of the field. It also examines the researcher-researched relationship in a context where the researcher is required to develop an ethnographic rapport with a research subject that strives for and affirms values that differ markedly from those of the researcher.

  Er vi rammet av dokumentarisme og narsissisme? Debatten rundt selvfremstilling i sosiale medier og mulig økende tendens til narsissisme er aktuell i en tid der grensene mellom det private og offentlige viskes ut. Også innen kunstfotografiet har det selvbiografiske og navlebeskuende vært en trend de senere årene, noe vi også kjenner igjen i litteratur og i film. Samtidig har vi samfunnet og verden tettere på oss i dag på grunn av internett, noe som kanskje skulle tilsi et økende engasjement for verden utenfor seg selv. Oslo Fotokunstskole inviterer til en intim samtale mellom psykiater Finn Skårderud og filmregissørene Iram Haq og Ole Giæver. Skårderud har engasjert seg i tematikken rundt avhengigheten av den navlebeskuende og dokumenterende delen ved sosiale medier, Iram Haq viser i sine filmer en evne til å kombinere det selvopplevde med en sterk samfunnsengasjert og kunstnerisk stemme og Ole Giæver er i sine filmer opptatt av egen persons plass i dagens samfunn og viser gjennom ”det lille og nære” mennesket i et større perspektiv.   During the last decade, rural areas in Western Norway have experienced a significant increase in work immigrants from Poland and Lithuania. These people are a sought‐after resource ‐ because of a declining population and a high demand of labor. In order to stay, however, they need information about the community and relevant public services. Based on a case study of three rural municipalities in Western Norway, this paper identifies to what extent public sector prepare, communicate and disseminate relevant information to polish work immigrants. We also identify their information needs, how they assess available public information and which channels (digital or non‐digital) they prefer. The study concludes that only one rural municipality has prepared especially for work‐ immigrant targeted information. More often than not, municipalities neither know work‐ immigrants’ needs nor their preferred channels. As a result, ‘work‐immigrant specific’ information (e.g. about police, tax, financing) is frequently missing, on municipality web sites, municipality FB‐and Twitter‐accounts and in paper‐based pamphlets. We suggest that municipalities that want to grow, should offer a more targeted combination of personalized digital and non‐digital information, a “digitalized/human” door‐opening‐ service, more public digital services, good Norwegian language‐courses, public information meetings, and a tight collaboration with employers and workplaces.

  Hvilke måter å fortelle på- og oppleve litteratur på er det teknologiene inviterer til? I dag gis det i økende grad ut digitale litterære produksjoner for barn. Slike litterære produksjoner kan oppleves på tvers av en rekke ulike smart-plattformer. Fellestrekk for slike produksjoner for barn, er fokus på opplevelse, enten i form av svarende interaktive fortellinger, fortellinger som beveges i forhold til tiden på døgnet, stedet eller årstiden barnet leser fortellingen på, eller fortellinger der barnet selv kan påvirke retningen i historien, for å nevne noe. Med andre ord: en rekke barnelitteratur som gis ut digitalt, disponerer nye teknologiske affordanser som gir endrede estetiske opplevelser.

Før tenkte vi oss nøye om før vi trykket på utløserknappen. Vel hjemme ble bare utvalgte bilder limt inn i albumet. I dag poster vi i vei på Facebook, Instagram, Flickr eller andre sosiale medier. − Det private er ikke lenger forbeholdt den private sfære, samtidig som omfanget av hva som kommuniseres av private ting ut i offentligheten er mye større. Det vi tenker som privat, er ikke nødvendigvis lenger forbeholdt private rom. Man skalerer hvor privat noe er.   Hvor lenge kan du stå i en kø før du tar opp mobilen? I kø på Gardermoen? På Rema, på do, på Nav? Eller i køen for hengerutleie på Ikea en lørdags ettermiddag? Hvor lang tid tar det før du bikker opp mobilen fra lomma når du trekker nummerlapp 889 og tavla viser 600? Jeg tenker på mobilen i det jeg ser den tavla. Jeg trekker nummerlapp og setter meg ned og går rett inn. Jeg sjekker Instagram, Facebook, Vg.no, nrk.no, tekstmeldinger, bildene mine og været – helst samtidig. Jeg sender tekstmeldinger, tar ett bilder, laster opp noen bilder, liker noen bilder, og så skriver jeg en statusoppdatering, før jeg legger mobilen i lomma. Etter ett sekund kjenner jeg det dirrer i låret, i lomma, på hofta, det skjelver og pulserer. Men det har ikke kommet én tekstmelding, heller ingen som har likt bildet mitt eller fulgt opp statusoppdateringen min. Det har ikke skjedd noe som helst på ett sekund – kanskje fordi jeg er førti år og da tar det minst to. Så, hvis du gjør som meg, kjenner at det vibrerer uten at det foreligger noen ekstern vibrasjonskilde, så har du fått samtidas tinnitus, bare at det sitter i låret: Du har fått phantom pocket-vibration syndrom.

  Abstract: Over entire new spheres of life, the dramatically increased intensity of young people’s instant media involvement, represent core features of contemporary participatory culture. From early age, youngsters have been introduced for various portable media applets where participation through communication and making are central. Children not only grow up digital, they constitute parts of the digital everyday through their partaking. Unquestionably, this also concerns children’s ‘participation’ of book-apps. Conventions governing the reading of books have been moulded through centuries. These conventions have become intangible and subtle parts of the reading process; a process of which we rarely need to reflect upon. Literature is however, as Koskimaa (2000) states in his work on hyper novels, a historically changing concept. Book-apps represent thus novel literary features, options and practices. Through participatory reading of books as apps, I claim that children and young people contribute in the making and changing concepts of literature. I ask: What kinds of literary narratives emerge due to new participatory technologies? What kind of reading-practices comes into existence? What happens to the literature when words no longer stand still? In order to develop a concept that comprise new participatory literature, I find it apt to study a larger media culture of which book-apps are situated within and/ or are genre/thematically adjacent to. Through three cases which - from various perspectives are applicable when attempting to understand new concepts of children’s (participatory) literature - (a) the interactive storybook ‘The artifacts’ (Australia), b) the psp3 game “Papa y Yo” (Brasil)) and c) “The Fantastic flying books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” (Usa) - will serve as point of departure to this discussion

  In this project, we focus on various forms of structures and maps that contribute to the understandings of family and kinship. This may be represented by mapping out genetic codes, family trees or normative understandings of what a family is: a family script. By script, we mean notions for how a family ‘ought’ to take form, how it ‘ought’ to interact and communicate. We attempt to illustrate how accustomed we are in relation to think ‘in’ scripts and codes. We also want to question how the scripts may possibly be translated and changed. � e translate a traditional scientific scheme; the structural formula to a DNA molecule – into a more familiar language. By using carpets and furniture, we ‘draw’ the enlarged DNA molecule on the gallery-floor. The carpets are cut into molecule-forms. Chairs and lamps function as oxygen- atoms and hydrogen-links. � e are not making a scientifically correct translation of a DNA molecule. Instead we play with structures and codes freely. On the opening night, the audience was tagged with patient-ribbons. Rather than using identificatory text on the ribbon, we use citations from the science fiction tradition. Science fiction is known as a genre that challenges and destabilises perceptions of reality, both politically and ethically. In this case, science fiction-citations may signalise potentially new family-scripts.

  This project examines how Norwegian children and youth understand and engage with the commercial landscape of virtual world gaming websites. The study aims to find out what experiences they have with using money during games, and how they relate to the ways they are positioned as customers and consumers within gaming platforms. We invited 19 participants aged 11-17 to group interviews. We talked about their game consumption habits and their knowledge of the business of gaming platforms and the gaming industry. Afterwards we asked the participants to pick a favourite game and draw a spider diagram of the commercial landscape of the game. We wanted them to represent visually their understanding of the micro and macro aspects of the gaming culture that they were part of. We also used what we call a play along method. We asked the participants to choose a favourite game and show us how they usually played the game while we observed and asked questions. Playing games was a daily activity for the participants, and their playing had increased during the coronavirus confinement. Some of the participants spent relatively large sums of money on gear like PCs, specialized headphones, and purchasing new games. The older participants (15-17) felt they had more control over commercial pressure to spend on gaming than the younger participants (11-13). The participants expressed how they were exposed to different types of marketing, varying from commercials to Youtube videos about gaming. The participants had a good understanding of the different revenue streams through which game owners earned money. They participants did not show interest or knowledge about the wider gaming industry – who owned the gaming companies and the web of different commercial actors involved in the online gaming economy. The creative methods that we used were particularly useful in developing the participants’ consumer literacy by helping them understand and reflect on how they were actors in a global industry.

  Sammendrag Psykt tabu har undersøkt hvorfor noen grupper med flyktning og innvandrerbakgrunn ikke mottar eller oppsøker psykisk helsehjelp. På bakgrunn av samtaler med 15 unge voksne viste studien to tendenser. Det ene var at det å oppsøke hjelp utenfor familien ble forstått som svakhet. Det handlet om svakhet i form av ‘svak karakter’, ‘svak i troen’, ‘svak som ‘ikke-normal’, eller svak som ‘et svakt ledd i samfunnsmaskineriet’. Funnene viste imidlertid forskjeller mellom hva som ble oppfattet som normer og hva som faktisk ble praktisert. For noen av deltakerne var troen en viktig støtte, men det å ha en tro utelukket ikke det å kunne oppsøke helsehjelp i vanskelige perioder. Det andre handlet om erfaringer med å bli ekskludert i møte med helsepersonell. Dette handlet ikke om eksplisitte hatefulle rasistiske diskrimineringserfaringer, men snarere om uintenderte former for ekskluderinger som ble pakket inn med ord som ‘kultur’ eller ‘religion’. Erfaringene bidro til at deltakerne tok avstand fra den hjelpen de ellers kunne ha fått. Framfor å fokusere på å utforme tjenestetilbudet på måter som angivelig skal imøtekomme ‘behovet hos etniske minoriteter’ anbefaler denne studien videre satsning på ‘avtabuisering’ av psykisk helse i samfunnet generelt og systematisk kompetanseheving på rasisme spesielt, på alle nivåer i helsetjenestene.

  Denne rapporten utforsker hvordan det er å vokse opp som ung og skeiv i små, mellomstore og store kommuner i alle de fire helseregionene, inkludert i forvaltningsområdet for samisk språk. Vi fokuserer særlig på unge skeives bruk av kommunale helsetjenester, med vekt på helsesøster/helsesykepleier. Målet med rapporten er å utvikle kunnskap som kan bidra til å sikre gode helsetjenester for ungdom som bryter med normer for kjønn og seksualitet. Datamaterialet som denne rapporten bygger på er intervjuer med unge skeive som både er norske, med innvandrerbakgrunn, og samiske eller samiske og kvenske. Vi har også intervjuet helsearbeidere, i hovedsak helsesøstre/helsesykepleiere. De unge skeive forteller at de i liten grad har snakket med helsesøster/helsesykepleier om kjønn og seksualitet eller det å være skeiv. De sier at de gjerne skulle brukt denne tjenesten mer, men begrunner det med at de oppfattet helsesøster/helsesykepleier som utilgjengelig, eller at de hadde lav tillit til deres kompetanse på kjønn og seksualitet. Heller enn helsesøster/helsesykepleier, henter de unge informasjon om det å være skeiv fra mange ulike steder, inkludert blogger og nettsteder, dating-sider, porno, filmer og bøker. Seksualitetsundervisninga er en annen viktig arena, hvor unge kan introduseres for et språk for å forstå og sette ord på egen identitet og begjærsretning. Samtidig fremstilles seksualitetsundervisninga som heteronormativ. De skeive samiske og kvenske informantene som har vokst opp i forvaltningsområdet for samisk språk, forteller mye av det samme som de norske deltagerne. Samtidig er religion viktig mange steder, enten man selv er religiøs eller ikke, og familien er viktig. Dette kan ha betydning for prosessen med å komme ut som skeiv overfor omgivelsene. Likevel fortalte deltagerne om et sterkt ønske om å være en rollemodell for andre unge skeive samer, og om støttende fellesskap blant samisk ungdom. For helsearbeiderne, i hovedsak helsesøstre/helsesykepleiere, er det stor forskjell mellom små, mellomstore og store kommuners ressurser, både når det kommer til økonomi, personell og avstand til ekspertise. De av helsearbeiderne som hadde særlig kompetanse på ungdom som bryter med normer for kjønn og seksualitet hadde enten a) en ledelse som anså kjønn og seksualitetskompetanse som ferskvare og med det prioriterte kompetanseheving av personalet; b) selv tatt ansvar for egen kompetanseheving gjennom kurs; c) fått kunnskapsoverføring gjennom samarbeid med andre kollegaer; eller d) mengdeerfaring. Nesten ingen hadde kunnskap om lhbt fra helsesøsterutdanningen. En gjennomgående tilbakemelding fra både skeive ungdommer og helsearbeidere er behovet for mer kompetanse. Kurs og kompetanseheving som er forankret i ledelsen, så vel som inkludering av kunnskap om lhbt i utdanningene, kan ha betydning for å heve lhbt-kompetanse og gi likeverdige offentlige helsetjenester uavhengig av bosted. I rapportens siste del har vi inkludert en rekke anbefalinger og ressurser for helsearbeidere så vel som forvaltningen. Flere kommuner har tatt oppfordringen fra regjeringens handlingsplan mot diskriminering på grunn av seksuell orientering, kjønnsidentitet og kjønnsuttrykk. Det finnes per i dag seks gjeldende kommunale handlingsplaner på lhbt-feltet. Vi har nærlest disse og foreslår noen strategier for kommuner som ønsker å oppdatere eller lage en lhbt-handlingsplan. Oppsummert er det viktigste samarbeid med relevante personer og organisasjoner, øremerkede midler, fordeling av ansvar, og vektlegging av kompetanseheving på tvers av sektorer. Målgruppen for denne rapporten er alle nivå av kommunal forvaltning innenfor helse, oppvekst og utdanning. Rapporten er særlig relevant for helsesykepleiere og alle andre helsearbeidere som kommer i kontakt med barn og unge, og for lærere, førskolelærere, barne- og ungdomsarbeidere, rektorer og andre i utdanningssektoren.

  Prosjektet har som hovedmål å utvikle kunnskap om arbeidsinnvandringen til Vestlandet, og hvordan kommunene på Vestlandet, både i eget arbeid og i samarbeid med andre, kan håndtere arbeidsinnvandringen slik at ressurspotensialet som denne gruppen representerer for arbeids- og samfunnsliv, ivaretas på best mulig måte. Dette er et perspektiv som i for liten grad har kommet fram i innvandringsforskningen ellers. Prosjektet består av tre delprosjekter. Disse skal samlet gi ny innsikt i arbeidsinnvandringen til Vestlandet og hvordan kommuner og fylker tilrettelegge for denne. Første delprosjekt skal gi ny kunnskap om hva som kjennetegner arbeidsinnvandringen til landsdelen. Delprosjekt to handler i tråd med dette om å fremskaffe kunnskap om i hvilken grad kommunene har en politikk, organiserer og klarer å tilby tjenester tilpasset arbeidsinnvandrere, herunder også aktivisering av innvandrergrupper. Delprosjekt tre legger i tråd med dette vekt på å belyse kommuner og fylkeskommuners tilrettelegging av informasjon for arbeidsinnvandrere og hvorvidt den aktuelle målgruppen opplever denne informasjonen som relevant og tilfredsstillende, eventuelt hvordan den bør forbedres. Ved å utforske hvordan kommuner og fylkeskommuner legger til rette (eller ikke legger til rette) for integrering og inkludering av arbeidsinnvandrere og undersøke hvordan denne gruppen faktisk opplever den kommunale Innsatsen, vil prosjektet samlet sett bidra med kunnskap som på sikt kan gjøre Vestlands-kommunene både mer bærekraftige og livskraftige.

  The overall goal of this project was to develop a better insight into how Stryn municipality meets the informational needs of immigrants through digital channels and services. The project provides an understanding of the status quo, the success factors, and challenges regarding integration, with specific insight into how access to digital information and nature of information flows influences possibilities of achieving a holistic integration in local communities. The report is based on a qualitative study. The empirical data was obtained through focus group discussions and usability tests with immigrants and individual interviews with public representatives/personnel. Document studies (i.e. review of web pages and physical documents) were also part of the methodological tools. Main findings: Although the municipality website stryn.kommune.no, has many positive integrative information/services aimed at meeting the needs of the immigrants, a lot was lacking especially in regard to meeting general principles for good public website usability. For instance, much of the information in question was out-dated and was sender-oriented (as the users were not initially involved in the development of immigrant-related information) and few interactive services were available. In addition, there was limited digital information ‘tailored’ for immigrants and refugees at stryn.kommune.no. Also, the primary information is predominantly in Norwegian (nynorsk). Although the services on the municipality’s web pages were perceived as available and understandable among some of the informants in the focus group, the usability tests indicated that the services, information and webpages were difficult to access and to navigate. This was attributed to several factors including poor language proficiency, congested webpages, poor digital competence and preference for face-to-face or/and telephone communication with personnel at the municipal offices. Recommendations: Several recommendations have been suggested to improve practice, some of which include: - Closer collaboration with end-users as a resource for generating more relevant and effective web content. - The need for systematic training in using digital tools and services. Such training ought to be integrated as a part of the introduction programme. - Supplementing or redesigning ‘Ny I Stryn’ on the front page to integrate visuals that provide information in a very clear-cut and simple way, where maps, images, illustrations and icons support the text. The information ought to be relevant and accessible for someone who has limited Norwegian language proficiency and or limited social network. This box must be developed in close interaction with target users. - Inter-cultural training for public service personnel The study acknowledges that Stryn municipality in Sogn og Fjordane is an exemplary municipality in spearheading the integration of immigrants within their communities. This, they are doing through a well formulated municipal apparatus that, in collaboration with other entities such as NAV, local businesses, voluntary organization and others, are locally 6 implementing the nationwide ‘Introductions program ’targeted mainly at refugees and asylum seekers but also serves labour immigrants. However, despite the protracted and bright efforts so far, a lot remains to be done to meet the needs of minorities/immigrants in the local municipality. Public information service delivery especially digital service delivery is one such area that requires multi-dimensional and concerted efforts particularly because we cannot ignore the fact that we live in and heavily operate in an information society/digital age – and no one should be excluded.
