Where is the library?
ØUC has a library on each campus. The library in Halden is on the lower floor and the library in Fredrikstad is in building H. Here you can read and study alone or in groups, find literature, meet your friends, get help and guidance, attend events and much more.
When is the library open?
The campus libraries are open from 8 to 19 Monday to Thursday and from 8 to 18 on Friday. Note: There may be other opening hours during holidays.
Do you have course literature?
We have a limited number of all course books. We also have one day loans of all course books, these must be returned the same day.
To find out if a course book is available and where you can find it on the shelf, go to the reading list in your course room in Canvas. Click on "Full details" or "Available at..." on the reference.
Under "Links & availability" you can see if and where the book is available. Every book has a shelf signature consisting of a letter and number combination that tells you where to find the book on the shelf. If the book is available on your campus we kindly request that you do not order the book, but go and find it on the shelf yourself.
You can request the book if it is unavailable.
How do I find other books?
You search for books and articles in the search tool Oria, where you can see if and where the book is available. Each book has a shelf signature which consists of a combination of letters and numbers, and this tells you where to find the book on the shelf. If the book is not available, you can order it and be put on the waiting list.
How do I borrow a book?
Use your student card or the student ID app as a loan card at our self service machines. You can borrow and return at both campus libraries.
How long can I borrow the book?
- The regular loan period is 4 weeks
- Course books: 2 weeks loan period
- One day loan: Must be returned the same day
You can log in to your account in Oria to check the due date on your loans. Read everything about borrowing here.
Can I renew a book I have borrowed?
All loans are automatically renewed as long as there is no one on the waiting list. Thus you do not need to renew the book yourself, but if you wish to do so, you must log in to Oria.
Where do I return books?
You can return books at the self service machines in both libraries. You can also return them in drop-off box outside the main entrance on both campuses 24/7.
Do you have electronic literature and can I read it from home?
In Oria you can find electronic books, articles, reports, dissertations and much more. If you are off campus, you must connect to VPN to get access.
How can I get help?
Talk to us at the front desk! You can also call or send an e-mail. We can guide in literature searching, referencing and source evaluation, in addition to the use of artificial intelligence.
