Østfold University of Applied Sciences as a publisher

You can receive assistance if you wish to establish a new open access journal. It is also possible to publish development work carried out for external clients.

OUAS Open Access Journals

The library offers a publishing service for researchers and academic communities that wish to establish peer-reviewed open access journals.

In collaboration with the university’s IT department, the library operates a publishing service for open access journals based on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software. In addition to technical operation of the system, we offer assistance with setup, training, and user support. We also contribute with indexing, inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and DOI registration via Crossref.

Academic communities are themselves responsible for the daily administration of the journal and for editorial processes such as copyediting, editing, and document management.

  • The journal must be open access
    • The journal must be free of charge
    • The journal must provide easy access to articles without requiring registration or login
    • It is desirable that associated research data are made available together with the articles, where relevant
  • The journal must have an ISSN, and articles in the journal must have DOIs
    • All authors must have an ORCID
  • The establishment of new journals must be based on an academic and scientific rationale
  • The journal must be affiliated with Østfold University of Applied Sciences through an editor, editorial board members, or administrative staff employed at the institution
  • The editor has editorial responsibility for all content in the journal. This also applies to links to content outside the platform
    • Editorial responsibility also includes language editing, editorial work, peer review, legal deposit, and other related tasks
  • The journal must have procedures for peer review and must meet the requirements to qualify as a level 1 journal in the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers
  • The journal must be published with a Creative Commons licence.
    • The CC BY licence is recommended
    • The editorial board may also choose CC BY-SA or CC BY-NC if this is more appropriate
  • Authors who publish in OUAS Open Access Journals retain the copyright to their article but grant the journal the right of first publication
  • The journal must be active and have a realistic plan for forthcoming issues
  • The Pro-Rector for Research and Dissemination at Østfold University of Applied Sciences has overall responsibility for approving new journals on the platform
  • Requirements for universal design are followed as far as possible at the article level
    • Image PDFs must not be used

Terms and guidelines may be changed.

Publishing commissioned reports

Østfold University of Applied Sciences offers publishing of development work carried out for external clients. The publications are issued in the university’s commissioned report series.

  • The title and responsible parties must be submitted as a separate document together with the manuscript
  • The client’s logo cannot be used on the cover but may be included on the first page of the manuscript

General information

The library assigns the commissioned report an ISBN and a series number. A minimum of three weeks should be expected from submission of the manuscript to publication of the report. All commissioned reports are published electronically in NVA and are searchable in Oria.

In connection with publication in NVA and the university’s commissioned report series, an agreement must be signed between one of the authors and the university. The agreement regulates rights and obligations between the university and the authors.

Østfold University of Applied Sciences does not publish works in series other than the commissioned report series.

Contact person for the commissioned report series is Kent André Iversen Crantz.
