Østfold University of Applied Sciences’ publication fund

The university has an internal publication fund administered by the library, which you can apply to for support to cover publication fees for articles, anthology chapters, and monographs. You apply by filling in the publication fund’s application form.

Article and book processing charges (APCs and BPCs) for open access publications

Based on national publishing agreements on open publishing, employees at Østfold University of Applied Sciences can publish articles in journals owned by certain major academic publishers without paying publication fees. If, however, you wish to publish with a publisher with which Østfold University of Applied Sciences does not have a publishing agreement, and you require support to pay publication fees, you may apply to the university’s publication fund. You must then familiarize yourself with and comply with the following guidelines:

  1. You may apply for support to cover publication fees for publications (articles, anthologies, and monographs) that are published with open access. For articles, only publication fees associated with publication in journals that offer gold open access are supported. Payment for individual articles in hybrid journals is not supported. In such cases, the university’s rights retention strategy may be used, which enables open access through self-archiving. An anthology in which one or more authors from Østfold University of Applied Sciences have contributed multiple chapters is regarded as a single publication.
  2. Support is granted for publication fees up to NOK 50,000. This applies to all publications. If the application concerns publication fees exceeding this amount, the applicant must document, as an attachment to the application, that other sources will cover the excess amount. The documentation must be attached to the application.
  3. The applicant must be employed, have a valid affiliation agreement, or be a student at Østfold University of Applied Sciences. Students must attach written confirmation from their supervisor.
  4. The applicant must be the corresponding author for the publication. The institutional affiliation must be stated in the publication.
  5. Apart from artistic research publications, costs for color printing, additional illustrations, and similar are not covered.
  6. The publication channel must be approved at level 1 or 2 in the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers.
  7. The publication must be peer-reviewed and qualify for NVI reporting.
  8. The publication must be registered, and the full-text version must be uploaded in NVA.
  9. Applications have a processing time of up to 14 days.

The Accounting Section at Østfold University of Applied Sciences is responsible for conducting all payments. Authors must not pay publisher invoices themselves.

The guidelines may be changed by the university’s management without notice, but the changes will not have retroactive effect on applications that have already been processed.
