This room is specially designed and equipped with advanced sound, visual and scent technology, creating entirely new opportunities for realistic simulation of real-life situations.
The technology, which includes interactive hotspots, enables us to create customised teaching content. With projections on three walls, interactive elements and the option to add scents, the room adds a whole new dimension to teaching and learning.
Our students can navigate through scenarios, interact with virtual elements, respond to tasks, explore different solutions and experience the consequences of their actions in real time.
The simulation room is unique in Norway and one of only five of its kind in the Nordic region.
“Inside this room, we aim to make the abstract concrete and the invisible visible.” Heidi Kristine Grønlien, Associate Professor – Department of Nursing, Health and Biomedical Laboratory Science
Who can use the immersive room?
The room is primarily intended for students and teaching staff at the Faculty of Health, Welfare and Organisation, but it can also be used by other academic disciplines at Østfold University College.
The room may also be relevant for established partners such as Fredrikstad Municipality and Østfold Hospital, as well as potential new partners. It can be used by professional groups outside the health sector as well. Police, fire and rescue services, and child welfare professionals are examples of groups that may train together or separately in this type of simulation environment. The establishment of the room has already generated considerable interest from other higher education institutions and external partners.
How can the immersive room be used?
The room can, for example, be used for:
- Simulation – using sound and visual projections to create environments that reflect the setting required for a simulation.
- Interactive learning – hotspots can trigger actions, allowing students to access information, watch videos, answer questions and more.
- Gamified learning activities – for example, escape rooms or team-based quizzes.
- Training related to safety, processes, introductions and orientation.
The room can also be used for research, as it provides opportunities to study learning and simulation in new ways and in controlled environments.
The simulation room not only strengthens the quality of our education, but can also contribute to societal innovation by enabling new ideas to be tested in virtual environments.
The user interface is designed to make the room accessible and useful to as many users as possible.
