Requirements for admission

Requirements for specialisation in Artificial Intelligence, Interaction Design and Cyber Security Management:
A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent education of at least 180 ECTS credits, and in addition or included:

  • at least 80 ECTS credits in computer science, of which at least 20 ECTS credits must be in programming.

To be admitted, the applicant must have an average grade value from the qualifying education of at least 25 (according to ECTS standards).

Requirements for Specialisation in Internet of Things:
A bachelor's degree in engineering, or an equivalent education of at least 180 ECTS credits, and in addition or included:

  • at least 80 ECTS credits in computer science, of which at least 20 ECTS credits must be in programming.
  • at least 25 ECTS credits in mathematics.
  • at least 7,5 ECTS credits in physics.
  • at least 5 ECTS credits in statistics.

To be admitted, the applicant must have an average grade value from the qualifying education of at least 25 (according to ECTS standards).

English language requirement for all specialisation:

  1. Passed the subject English at a Norwegian upper secondary school (140 hours) and been awarded an average grade of 3 or better, or
  2. International English Language Test Service (IELTS), with a minimum overall band score of 6.0 (academic test), or
  3. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), HiØ code 6240 with a minimum score of 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 80 or at least 4 points on the 1-6 scale (internet-based), or
  4. Pearson PTE Academic test, with a minimum overall score of 58, or
  5. Cambridge ESOL Examinations, First Certificate in English with a grade of B or better, Certificate in Advanced English or Certificate of Proficiency in English, or
  6. Completed university degree in the subject English language or literature, or
  7. Completed bachelor’s degree taught in English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA (the degree must have been physically taught in one of these countries), or
  8. Other approved documentation of English language tests may be subject to an individual and discretionary assessment.

How do you apply

  • Getting started
    • All applicants must register their application on SøknadsWeb.
    • Make sure you have thoroughly read all the information about admission and valid documents before submitting your application. You can only apply if all admission requirements are met. The admission requirements are listed at each study program under the button “Apply for this programme”.
    • HiØ will not process incomplete applications.
    • The first step in applying to Østfold University College is logging into SøknadsWeb. When you come to the login page, choose your preferred login method.
  • My Profile

    • Applicants must fill out all of the requested information. It is important that you make sure all provided information regarding your personal information is correct.

      When you are satisfied that the information is correctly entered, click on ‘Next’.

  • Choose Admission
    • Select Postgraduate studies, further education, PPU and master's studies from the list and read carefully the information provided. Choose the study you wish to apply for from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. 

    • You can apply to one study program.

      Click on ‘Next’ when you are finished.

  • Documentation
    • In order for the Admissions Office to process your application, applicants must upload all required documents in SøknadsWeb.
    • You can upload your documents by clicking on ‘My Documents’ in the menu at the top of the page. This is where you can see what you have uploaded as well as upload new documents. Documents should be uploaded as soon as possible and no later than the documentation submission deadline. Documents sent in the mail or by e-mail will not be considered or returned.
    • HiØ will not process incomplete applications.
    • You will find information online about Østfold University College’s valid documentation.
  • Receipt
    • All applicants are sent a receipt via e-mail confirming that the application was received. A receipt can also be viewed in SøknadsWeb under ‘My applications’ in the menu at the top of the page.
  • Communication

    • All correspondence from the Admissions Office regarding applications will be done via e-mail. It is important that you register your correct e-mail address in your application and that you check your spam folder if you have, for example, not received the receipt from your application submission.

      Remember to check your email frequently throughout the application period.

  • Admission Decision
    • Admission decisions are sent out via e-mail and published in SøknadsWeb. If you receive an offer of admission, you must respond in SøknadsWeb to the offer within the deadline noted in your admission offer. Should you not respond within the deadline, the offer will then be given to another applicant.
  • Tuition fees
    • For international students with citizenship from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must pay tuition fees to Østfold University Collage. Read more here

Voluntary documents: 

  • Other documents, Name change, and Tertiary vocational education.
  • Proof of Funding (applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA)

Please check that all your documentation is considered valid documentation.

Please do not upload documents such as a passport, CV, statement of purpose, work experience letters, recommendation letters, or motivational letters unless this is specifically stated as a requirement for the program you are applying for. Unless required, such documents will not affect your application and will be disregarded in the application.
