About the Project
In the Nordic Digital Health & Education (NorDigHE) project (2023-2026), we aim to develop a digital education program for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who work with the digital management of patients receiving treatment and care in their own homes - in Hospitals-at-Home. The project is based on the 2023 consensus definition of Hospital-at-Home by the World Hospital at Home Community:
"Hospital at Home (...) is an acute clinical service that takes staff, equipment, technologies, medication, and skills usually provided in hospitals and delivers that hospital care to selected people in their homes or in nursing homes. It substitutes for acute inpatient hospital care."
The education program will ensure that healthcare professionals obtain the necessary digital competencies and psychological confidence to effectively deliver treatment and nursing care virtually. Lack of familiarity with the digital treatment modality and inadequate digital skills among healthcare professionals have been identified internationally as key reasons why it has been challenging to implement e-health initiatives in clinical practice, even though they are well-documented. There is a significant need, both within the healthcare system and educational institutions, to rapidly, easily, and scalably develop healthcare professional's competence in digital patient care.
The project consists of six work packages (WP):
WP1: Project Management and Communication
WP2: Development of Curriculum - Study Plan
WP3: Storytelling - Content Development
WP4: Production of Content for Education
WP5: Pilot Testing and Training of Students and Clinicians
WP6: Evaluation of the Education Program, including Research on the Impact of the Education. The evaluation follows an international framework for the development and assessment of complex interventions in the healthcare sector.
The aims of the project
NorDigHE is developed by educational institutions and hospitals in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway to support the implementation of Hospital-at-Home (HaH). The program aims to enhance knowledge and competence regarding HaH in clinical practice and education, focusing on:
-
Digital tools, legislation, data protection, and ethics.
-
Implementation, organization, and innovation in practice.
-
Identifying patient needs and delivering HaH services.
-
Follow-up and support for individual patients and their relatives.
Funding
The project is funded by Interreg Øresund Skagerrak and Kattegat: InterregØKS
Collaboration
The consortium consists of eight partners from Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, including two hospitals: Nordsjælland Hospital, Copenhagen and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg; three educational institutions: Copenhagen University College, Lund University, and Østfold University College; as well as three design and development companies within technology: Copenhagen Game Lab, Copenhagen; Mount Visual, Bergen; and TicTac Learn (formerly Skillhabit), Stockholm.
