Academic interests
My research interests include patient- and family-centred care, particularly in relation to intensive care patients and their relatives, both during the ICU stay and in the period following discharge. I am also interested in natural science subjects such as anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and I am concerned with how student-active learning and teaching methods can contribute to the development of nurses’ communication skills, professional conduct and clinical competence.
In my research, I employ qualitative methods and have experience with various data collection techniques, including participant observation, individual interviews and focus group interviews.
Courses taught
I primarily teach in the Master’s programme in Clinical Nursing, and in the Bachelor’s programme in Nursing when needed. My teaching covers a wide range of topics, from various themes within anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to patient- and family-centred care, communication, quality improvement and patient safety, as well as more specific topics related to the roles and responsibilities of intensive care nurses. In my teaching, I strive to use varied, student-active learning approaches and have extensive experience with the use of simulation as a pedagogical method.
I have close contact with, and in-depth knowledge of, the clinical field, based on many years of experience in organising and following up intensive care nursing students in clinical placements. Furthermore, I supervise master’s students in clinical nursing and serve as co-supervisor for one PhD candidate.
I have extensive experience as an examiner, both internally and externally, at bachelor’s and master’s level, and through this work I have collaborated with several university colleges and universities.
