First Graduation Ceremony for Double Degree Master Students

The Master in Applied Computer Science at Østfold University College offers students the opportunity to graduate with a double degree in cooperation with our Swiss partner, Lucerne University of Applied Arts and Sciences, School of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Monica K. Holone, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Communication participated in the graduation ceremony in Switzerland together with the Dean and Head of Studies from Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology.

On Friday, August 30, 2024, the first three double degree students between Østfold University College and the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Technology received their diplomas from both institutions at the graduation ceremony in Switzerland. Monica Kristiansen Holone, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Communication at Østfold University College was there to hand out the diplomas, together with Dr. Prof. René Hüsler, Dean of the Lucerne School of Information Technology and Peter Wullschleger, Head of the Master IT, Digitalization and Sustainability.

How does the double degree work?

Students are given the opportunity to obtain two coordinated degrees. Students from Norway attend the first study year at Østfold University College and their third and fourth semester (optional), at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology in Rotkreuz.  Students attend advanced modules and write their master’s thesis in collaboration with both institutions. The master thesis is co-supervised by both partner institutions.

The double degree was established in 2022 and Østfold University College welcomed the first three students from Switzerland in the fall of 2023. On Friday, August 30, 2024, these three students officially received their final diplomas, marking their achievements recognized by both institutions.

Thomas Tanner, double degree student, received his diplomas at the graduation ceremony from Monica H. Kristiansen and Peter Wullschleger. Thomas is beginning his ph.d studies in Germany this fall.

What is the benefit of this double degree?
