  The introduction of Industry 4.0 and IIoT has enabled the interconnection of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) and exposed industrial control systems to cyber threats. Industrial cybersecurity requires knowledge, skill, and collaboration between IT and OT. A comparison of graduate curricula of software engineering and systems engineering identifies competencies related to industrial control systems cybersecurity. Industry experts are interviewed to identify needs for cybersecurity skills and competencies. Results from the mapping are discussed in the context of software and systems engineering challenges in ICS cybersecurity and leveraged against industry experiences and needs expressed through interviews with three OT and IT industry professionals. The curricula mapping reveals variations in both how they are organised and expressed to the extent that subjective interpretation is required for evaluation and comparison. The interviews with the industry experts indicate a gap between graduate competence from the curricula and industry needs.

  Visual Analytics (VA) is a multidisciplinary field that requires various skills including but not limited to data analytics, visualizations, and the corresponding domain knowledge. Recently, many studies proposed creating and using Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) for VA in order to abstract complexities and assist designers in developing better VAs for different data domains. However, development methods and types of DSLs vary for different applications and objectives. In this study, we conducted a systematic literature review to overview DSL methods and their intended applications for VA systems. Moreover, the review outlines the benefits and limitations of each of these methods. The aim is to provide decision support for both the research and development communities to choose the most compatible approach for their application. We think the communication of this research delivers a broad figure of previous relevant research and assists with the transfer and adaptation of the results to other domains.

  Critical Infrastructures (CIs) are vital for modern societies, covering different sectors like banking, emergency services, energy, healthcare, oil and gas, transportation, and water distribution. Over the years, CIs rely on technology for their seamless operations. Their reliable and secure operation is of supreme importance to societal welfare and a nation's economy. This paper reports on the presentation and discussions held during the 3rd International Workshop on Engineering and Cybersecurity of Critical Systems (EnCyCriS - 2022). The main aim of this EnCyCriS workshop is to gather contributions from researchers and practitioners working on challenges and solutions for engineering and cybersecurity of critical systems in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). This year´s edition has accepted and presented seven papers in addition to a keynote speech from a Principal Analyst in Information Security for Equinor ASA, Norway. This workshop was co-located with the 44th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE - 2022), which took place on 16th May 2022.

  The software industry has witnessed a growing interest in DevSecOps due to the premises of integrating security in the software development lifecycle. However, security compliance cannot be disregarded, given the importance of adherence to regulations, laws, industry standards, and frameworks. This study aims to provide an overview of compliance aspects in the context of DevSecOps and explore how compliance is ensured. Furthermore, this study reveals the trends of compliance according to the extant literature and identifies potential directions for further research in this context. Therefore, we carried out a systematic literature review on the integration of compliance aspects in DevSecOps, which rigorously followed the guidelines proposed by Kitchenham and Charters. We found 934 articles related to the topic by searching five bibliographic databases (163) and Google Scholar (771). Through a rigorous selection process, we selected 15 papers as primary studies. Then, we identified the compliance aspects of DevSecOps and grouped them into three main categories: compliance initiation, compliance management, and compliance technicalities. We observed a low number of studies; therefore, we encourage further efforts into the exploration of compliance aspects, their automated integration, and the development of metrics to evaluate such a process in the context of DevSecOps.

  Background: DevOps is currently one of the main trends in software development. Low-Code is also an emerging tendency that, combined with DevOps, may offer significant value to software businesses by improving the process. However, how DevOps practices and low-code are combined is little known. Aim: This study aims to understand the practitioner's perspectives on low-code trends. Method: Twelve interviews with IT professionals who deal with low-code in the context of DevOps were conducted. Then, a grounded theory approach was used to theme the interview quotes into emergent categories. Results: The main result of this exploratory study reveals that such an approach is the most common response to the skill shortages of software professionals. Conclusion: This study suggests the emergence of DevOps and low-code could significantly contribute to the development of quality products with low-cost and time.

  Background: The popularity of DevSecOps is on the rise because it promises to integrate a greater degree of security into software delivery pipelines. However, there is also an unacceptable risk related to safety that cannot be overlooked, given the importance of this aspect in many industries. Objective: The objective of this study is to provide an overview of the safety aspects reported in the literature on DevSecOps. This study also characterizes such aspects and identifies the gaps that may lead to future research work. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted using five well-known academic databases. The search was executed in September 2021 and March 2022 to identify relevant studies. Results: The search returned 114 academic studies. After the screening process, five primary studies published between 2019 and 2021 were selected. These studies were analyzed thoroughly to identify the safety aspects. Then, we categorized them into three main groups: (i) risk-related safety aspects, (ii) human-related aspects, and (iii) management aspects. Conclusion: Safety is an important characteristic that is becoming more critical as the number of critical systems grows. This review reveals that only a scarce number of studies are focusing on safety in DevSecOps. However, those studies gave us some insights into this topic. Therefore, our main observation is that this topic has not yet been completely explored in the academic literature. This review can encourage reflection and discussion between the safety and security communities.

  Over the last decade, corporate networks have undergone significant changes and have been increasingly reliant on cloud-based services to run their businesses. The Covid-19 pandemic has expedited this pattern. In this scenario, there is a need to provide security to infrastructures in an advanced and integrated way. Gartner invented the term “Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)” to meet the above-mentioned goal. SASE is a single framework cloud-native architecture that integrates various network and security functions. SASE is seen as a new cybersecurity solution that impacted established vendors but has received little academic attention. Therefore, in this paper, we present a Multivocal Literature Review (MVLR) aiming to gather an illustration of SASE, including definition, key characteristics, reported benefits and challenges and, finally, critiques of this new term. SASE is adopting the benefits of cloud approaches adding security to the service, however, challenges remain in several setups, including legacy systems.

  Emotion Analysis extends the idea of Sentiment Analysis by shifting from plain positive or negative sentiments to a rich variety of emotions to get better understanding of the users’ thoughts and appraisals. The move from Sentiment Analysis to Emotion Analysis requires, however, better feature engineering techniques when it comes to capturing complex language phenomena, which have to do with figurative language and the way of expressing oneself. In this manuscript we detail the participation of the UMUTeam in EmoEvalEs’2021 shared task from IberLEF, concerning the identification of emotions in Spanish. Our proposal is grounded on the combination of explainable linguistic features and state-of-the-art transformers based on the Spanish version of BERT. We achieved the 6th position in the official leader board with an accuracy of 68.5990%, only 4.1667% below the best result. In addition, we apply model agnostic techniques for explainable artificial intelligence to achieve insights from the linguistic features. We observed a correlation between psycho-linguistic processes and perceptual feel with the emotions evaluated and, pecifically, with documents labelled as sadness.

  Sexism is harmful behaviour that can make women feel worthless promoting self-censorship and gender inequality. In the digital era, misogynists have found in social networks a place in which they can spread their oppressive discourse towards women. Although this particular form of oppressive speech is banned and punished on most social networks, its identification is quite challenging due to the large number of messages posted everyday. Moreover, sexist comments can be unnoticed as condescends or friendly statements which hinders its identification even for humans. With the aim of improving automatic sexist identification on social networks, we participate in EXIST-2021. This shared task involves the identification and categorisation of sexism language on Spanish and English documents compiled from micro-blogging platforms. Specifically, two tasks were proposed, one concerning a binary classification of sexism utterances and another regarding multi-class identification of sexist traits. Our proposal for solving both tasks is grounded on the combination of linguistic features and state-of-the-art transformers by means of ensembles and multi-input neural networks. To address the multi-language problem, we tackle the problem independently by language to put the results together at the end. Our best result was achieved in task 1 with an accuracy of 75.14% and 61.70% for task 2.

  The progressive incorporation of humans as active players within the Internet of Things domain, has positioned the smartphone as one of the main elements of this environment. The multiple functionalities that this device offers, along with its rapid evolution, have benefited usability, thus improving user experience, making this appliance a versatile pocket assistant. Nowadays, these devices comprise a large number of special-purpose sensors capable of collecting a variety of information, that along with the data from other mobile applications such as online social networks, is the fuel for new IoT systems. Much of this data is used to offer innovative services in several areas, making the smartphone an ideal medium for acquiring information. Unfortunately, the control of data flows between smartphones and new IoT systems is scarce, triggering concerns around users' privacy. Also, we could add to the list the limited privacy preservation mechanisms in current mobile operating systems. It is for this reason that this article aims to propose a privacy-preserving framework that can be integrated into people-centric IoT systems. Besides introducing the architecture of our PACHA framework, the manuscript will present the new vision of our ISABELA platform derived from the integration with the privacy-preserving model.

  Over the last 3 decades, researchers have attempted to shed light into the requirements traceability problem by introducing tracing tools, techniques, and methods with the vision of achieving ubiquitous traceability. Despite the technological advances, requirements traceability remains problematic for researchers and practitioners. This study aims to identify and investigate the main challenges in implementing (semi-)automated requirements traceability, as reported in the recent literature. A systematic literature review was carried out based on the guidelines for systematic literature reviews in software engineering, proposed by Kitchenham. We retrieved 4530 studies by searching five major bibliographic databases and selected 70 primary studies. These studies were analysed and classified according to the challenges they present and/or address. Twenty-one challenges were identified and were classified into five categories. Findings reveal that the most frequent challenges are technological challenges, in particular, low accuracy of traceability recovery methods. Findings also suggest that future research efforts should be devoted to the human facet of tracing, to explore traceability practices in organisational settings, and to develop traceability approaches that support agile and DevOps practices. Finally, it is recommended that researchers leverage blockchain technology as a suitable technical solution to ensure the trustworthiness of traceability information in interorganisational software projects.

  Social robots are increasingly penetrating our daily lives. They are used in various domains, such as healthcare, education, business, industry, and culture. However, introducing this technology for use in conventional environments is not trivial. For users to accept social robots, a positive user experience is vital, and it should be considered as a critical part of the robots’ development process. This may potentially lead to excessive use of social robots and strengthen their diffusion in society. The goal of this study is to summarize the extant literature that is focused on user experience in social robots, and to identify the challenges and benefits of UX evaluation in social robots. To achieve this goal, the authors carried out a systematic literature review that relies on PRISMA guidelines. Our findings revealed that the most common methods to evaluate UX in social robots are questionnaires and interviews. UX evaluations were found out to be beneficial in providing early feedback and consequently in handling errors at an early stage. However, despite the importance of UX in social robots, robot developers often neglect to set UX goals due to lack of knowledge or lack of time. This study emphasizes the need for robot developers to acquire the required theoretical and practical knowledge on how to perform a successful UX evaluation.

  The novel, yet disruptive blockchain technology has witnessed growing attention, due to its intrinsic potential. Besides the conventional domains that benefit from such potential, such as finance, supply chain and healthcare, blockchain use cases in software engineering have emerged recently. In this study, we aim to contribute to the body of knowledge of blockchain-oriented software engineering by providing an adequate overview of the software engineering applications enabled by blockchain technology. To do so, we carried out a systematic mapping study and identified 22 primary studies. Then, we extracted data within the research type, research topic and contribution type facets. Findings suggest an increasing trend of studies since 2018. Additionally, findings reveal the potential of using blockchain technologies as an alternative to centralized systems, such as GitHub, Travis CI, and cloud-based package managers, and also to establish trust between parties in collaborative software development. We also found out that smart contracts can enable the automation of a variety of software engineering activities that usually require human reasoning, such as the acceptance phase, payments to software engineers, and compliance adherence. In spite of the fact that the field is not yet mature, we believe that this systematic mapping study provides a holistic overview that may benefit researchers interested in bringing blockchain to the software industry, and practitioners willing to understand how blockchain can transform the software development industry.

  echnical debt in software development is a common problem that is overlooked by many development teams. This debt can be generated from a variety of reasons, including time pressure and complexity in software. Technical debt in simple terms is when a simple and less optimized solution is carried out in order to gain short term benefits, which leads to refactoring and reworking code later on, costing both time and money. The issue is present in both big, established companies and small startups, and is the reason why many of these small startups never get enough economic grip before debt catch up and they go bankrupt. This paper aims to address this problem by exploring how continuous practices including DevOps could help resolve this issue by adopting the right approaches into the software development cycle and workflow. So as to collect information about these topics, a systematic literature review has been conducted, covering both positive and negative impacts these practices can have on technical debt. The findings will present the current practices used to manage and reduce the accumulation of technical debt, if and how these approaches can be used to reduce already existing technical debt and which of these practices that have the biggest impact on technical debt. The paper concludes that there's potential for continuous practices including DevOps to possibly reduce technical debt if applied appropriately.

  Traditionally, women have been underrepresented in Computing studies. The discipline is male-dominated in spite of the efforts promoting the participation of women in the field, both in the student base and in the professional arena. Literature underlined that student attraction and professional retention are aspects to analyse in a sound way in order to build strong and grounded theories for this complex misbalance phenomenon. In this scenario, authors study the gender gap in computing education by collecting data such as female students enrolled in one of the mandatory courses and female members of faculty. In addition to this data, socio-economic factors such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and unemployment rate of the countries under study were considered. Results show that the gender gap in computing studies is not narrowing significantly despite the measures that were undertaken. In an attempt to explain the gender gap by considering macroeconomic variables, authors highlight the complexness of the phenomenon. Authors believe that there is not a single answer or explanation to this imbalance and a variety of aspects from values to culture and from economy to expectations need to be analysed in order to bring answers and possible solutions to this tangible problem.

  Recent developments in human–computer interaction technologies raised the attention towards gamification techniques, that can be defined as using game elements in a non-gaming context. Furthermore, advancement in machine learning (ML) methods and its potential to enhance other technologies, resulted in the inception of a new era where ML and gamification are combined. This new direction thrilled us to conduct a systematic literature review in order to investigate the current literature in the field, to explore the convergence of these two technologies, highlighting their influence on one another, and the reported benefits and challenges. The results of the study reflect the various usage of this confluence, mainly in, learning and educational activities, personalizing gamification to the users, behavioral change efforts, adapting the gamification context and optimizing the gamification tasks. Adding to that, data collection for machine learning by gamification technology and teaching machine learning with the help of gamification were identified. Finally, we point out their benefits and challenges towards streamlining future research endeavors.

  Despite the long tradition on the study of human values, the impact of this field in the software engineering domain is rarely studied. To these regards, this study focuses on applying human values to agile software development process, more specifically to scrum roles. Thus, the goal of the study is to explore possible associations between human values and scrum roles preferences among students. Questionnaires are designed by employing the Short Schwartz's Value Survey and are distributed among 57 students. The results of the quantitative analysis process consisting of descriptive statistics, linear regression models and Pearson correlation coefficients, revealed that values such as power and self-direction influence the preference for the product owner role, the value of hedonism influences the preference for scrum masters and self-direction is associated with team members' preference.

  Social applications foster the involvement of end users in Web content creation, as a result ofwhich a new source of vast amounts of data about users and their likes and dislikes has becomeavailable. Having access to users’ contributions to social sites and gaining insights into theconsumers’ needs is of the utmost importance for marketing decision making in general, and toadvertisement recommendation in particular. By analyzing this information, advertisement re-commendation systems can attain a better understanding of the users’ interests and preferences,thus allowing these solutions to provide more precise ad suggestions. However, in addition to thealready complex challenges that hamper the performance of recommender systems (i.e., datasparsity, cold-start, diversity, accuracy and scalability), new issues that should be consideredhave also emerged from the need to deal with heterogeneous data gathered from disparatesources. The technologies surrounding Linked Data and the Semantic Web have proved effectivefor knowledge management and data integration. In this work, an ontology-based advertisementrecommendation system that leverages the data produced by users in social networking sites isproposed, and this approach is substantiated by a shared ontology model with which to representboth users’ profiles and the content of advertisements. Both users and advertisement are re-presented by means of vectors generated using natural language processing techniques, whichcollect ontological entities from textual content. The ad recommender framework has been ex-tensively validated in a simulated environment, obtaining an aggregated f-measure of 79.2% anda Mean Average Precision at 3 (MAP@3) of 85.6%.

  The ability of detecting infections at an early stage in clinical environments is an important clinical problem. When an infection is not diagnosed on time, it may not only affect the health of the infected patient, but also spread and infect other people. In this paper, we propose the development of a clinical decision support system (CDSS) for diagnosing infections using clinical signals from patients. This system is designed to be able to cope with small amounts of data (a single record per day and patient), making it convenient for environments under strict constraints (such as low resources or bad connectivity). Additionally, we have incorporated data from external sources, in order to enrich the quality of the models.   Organizations are needed of flexible structures to achieve their aims. In the software arena, Self-organization is the one of the principles of the agile methodologies as defined in the agile manifesto. Autonomous agile teams are a way to conform self-organization. The main objective of this paper is to know about the how autonomous agile teams organize themselves and what are the benefits and the challenges faced by these teams. A systematic literature review was conducted to find answers to these questions. 23 relevant papers were identified as primary sources to define and study autonomous and self-organized agile team. From the review, it was found that there are many benefits and challenges of autonomous agile teams and the various strategies to overcome the challenges.

  Holacracy can be seen as a strategy for decentralized management and organizational governance in which authority and decision-making are delivered by means of autonomous and self-organizing groups or teams. Although the topic is not new, its application in software development has not a long history behind it. This study is meant to give an overview on holacracy for software development teams, its features, benefits gained, as well as its challenges. To do so, in this paper, authors present a multivocal literature review in which a panoply of sources including research and grey literature is reviewed. Our study shows that adapting holacracy towards self-organizing software development teams can result in increased product transparency, improved decision making, more efficient progress, and a higher sense of individual responsibility. However, there are reported challenges such as implementation difficulty and increase in employee outflows.

  Being able to detect an infection at an early stage is a clinical problem of the utmost importance. An infection not diagnosed on time might not only severely affect the infected patient's health, but also to spread and start a focus of contagion to other people. In this paper, we propose a clinical decision support system to automatically diagnose infections using physiological signals from the patients. The focus of the system is put on being able to deal with very small amounts of data (one aggregated record per patient and day), which eases the potential of the system in environments with low resources. Data has been acquired between April 2018 and January 2019 in two nursing homes in Spain, where nurses had also tested patients for infections. Machine learning models have then been created by aggregating measurements from days prior to the infection (lead) and after the infection started (lag) in order to generate features. The best model attained reports an AUROC of 0.722, using data from up to two days after the infection started. Interestingly, an AUROC of up to 0.692 is achieved when infection prognosis is considered; i.e., using only measurements prior to the manual recording of the infection to compose the dataset.

  Code smells are an indicator of poor design in software systems. Artificial intelligence techniques have been applied in several ways to improve soft-ware quality in code smells detection i.e. (detection rules or standards using a combination of object-oriented metrics and Bayesian inference graphs). Literature in the field has identified artificial intelligence techniques and compare different artificial intelligence algorithms, which are used in the detection of code smells. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is not a systematic literature review devoted to study in deep the interaction of these fields. In this paper, authors conduct a systematic mapping to get to know how artificial intelligence inter-acts with code smells. Results show the deep connection of Artificial Intelligence with code smells in a solid way, as well as, providing potential challenges and opportunities for future research.

  Sepsis is a life-threatening condition due to the reaction to an infection. With certain changes in circulatory system, sepsis may progress to septic shock if it is left untreated. Therefore, early prognosis of septic shock may facilitate implementing correct treatment and prevent more serious complications. In this study, we assess the feasibility of applying a computer-aided prognosis system for septic shock. The system is envisaged as a tool to predict septic shock at the time of sepsis onset using only vital signs which are collected routinely in intensive care units (ICUs). To this end, we evaluate the performances of computational methods that take the sequence of vital signs acquired until sepsis onset as input and report the possibility of progressing to a septic shock before any further clinical analysis is performed. Results show that an adaptation of multivariate dynamic time warping can reveal higher accuracy than other known time-series classification methods on a new dataset built from a public ICU database. We argue that the use of computational intelligence methods can promote computer-aided prognosis of septic shock in hospitalized environment to a certain degree.

  With the standardization of Information Technology (IT) governance through ISO/IEC 38500 in the last decade, a good number of organizations have implemented IT governance (ITG) frameworks. Although it is not a fully extended practice. Given the fact that the use of balanced score cards (BSC) on ITG is not an unknown practice, the application of BSC in the implementation of ISO/IEC 38500 has been given less importance, since it normally appears as just examples of good practices. This work not only explains why the BSC's applicability to align IT with business in ISO/IEC 38500 implementations is not included in the standard, but also justifies the importance of BSC to report to the board or senior executive team in a clear way, without the details of the particular implementation framework of the standard. Thus, a framework that allows implementing IT BSCs within the context of IT governance is proposed, cascading objectives included in the strategic map through the tactical and operational level and backwards on the construction of the KPIs to better monitor IT.
