Om prosjektet
In an era marked by growing uncertainty—from pandemics to climate disasters—organizations must shift from reactive crisis management to proactive preparedness. This thesis explores how fire departments can serve as role models for building organizational resilience through effective leadership and sustainable project management.
Fire departments operate in dynamic, high-pressure environments where preparedness is critical. Their success depends not only on rapid response but also on long-term planning, structured operations, and continuous learning. This research investigates how these elements come together in fire services and how other sectors can adopt similar strategies to strengthen their own resilience.
The project addresses the following key objectives:
- Identify leadership behaviors that foster adaptability, psychological safety, and crisis readiness.
- Examine how sustainable project management contributes to long-term organizational resilience.
- Develop a transferable framework with recomendations that integrates leadership and project practices to improve preparedness.
Methodology:
- Semi-Structured interviews with fire chiefs and senior personnel to understand leadership approaches and preparedness strategies.
- Litterature review on crisis leadership, sustainable project management, and organizational resilience to ground the research in existing theory and identify current gaps.
Fire departments offer unique insights into proactive crisis planning, including:
- Routine scenario-based training and simulations.
- Integration of sustainability in resource and personnel management.
- Strong coordination across teams and agencies under high-stakes conditions.
By learning from fire departments, the world can move toward a more prepared, adaptive, and resilient future—where crises are met not with panic, but with purpose and planning.
