Section coordinator Gunhild Brænne Bjørnstad, gunhild.b.bjornstad@hiof.no.
The section is happy to contribute in collaboration, projects and dissemination within:
Subject-specific core areas
Dramatic pedagogical activities, student-active learning forms, interdisciplinary artistic productions and projects, aesthetic learning processes, storytelling techniques and narrative practices, performances in and outside the classroom, use of art in learning processes, body awareness, dramaturgy and reading comprehension, etc.
Current thematic areas from curriculum/framework plan/social debate, etc.
Kindergarten
Working with drama supports the Framework Plan for Kindergarten and the kindergarten's value base in general. The broad anchoring of the field makes it possible to work with all the kindergarten's purposes. We particularly highlight the subject area of Arts, Culture, and Creativity as particularly relevant.
Primary School
In primary education, drama is relevant both as a subject and a method to support the foundational values of education, with a particular focus on joy of creation, engagement, and curiosity. Drama is well-suited to work with all principles for learning and is particularly relevant for work with interdisciplinary topics at all levels of primary education. In Parliamentary Report 34 (2023-2024), A More Practical School, methods are sought to activate students while they learn and reflect. Here, drama will be a natural component to learn both in and out of roles.
Upper Secondary Education
In upper secondary education, drama is included as a program in Music, Dance, and Drama. We offer practical pedagogical education with drama/theatre subject didactics for candidates who wish to teach in upper secondary school. This education can also be used to teach Drama and Theatre in cultural schools, something that Parliamentary Report 18 (2020-2021) Experience, Create, Share: Art and Culture for, with, and by children and youth promotes.
Professional profile and specialization
The section members are engaged in the research group Creation of Knowledge, interdisciplinary artistic productions, and international collaborations. We are also members of the network Drama and Theatre Pedagogues.
The section has access to a drama room with lighting rig and a simple sound system. If needed, we also collaborate with the departments for music and arts & crafts.
