Diploma

Upon the completion of your degree, you will receive a digital diploma (degree certificate) with a digital signature.

You will receive an email from the university when your diploma is available in the Diploma Registry (Vitnemålsportalen). You can also download it from Studentwb.

Diplomas are issued by 1 July.

Go to the Diploma Registry

A diploma is issued only once. If you take a new exam after receiving your diploma and wish the result to be included in it, you must contact the Examinations Office yourself and request that the diploma be updated.

  • If your studies are delayed, you are responsible for informing the Examinations Office when you have completed your programme.
  • If you complete a programme of shorter duration that does not lead to a degree, you will receive an academic transcript.
  • Please note that qualifications completed before 1995 may contain omissions or errors in the Diploma Registry. This is due to limitations in the transfer of data from older systems.
  • Enquiries regarding diplomas and academic transcripts issued before 1995 should be directed to the National Archives in Oslo (Statsarkivet i Oslo). Further information is available on the National Archives of Norway website.

Paper diploma

As a general rule, all graduating students receive a digital diploma when they complete their degree.

As some employers and countries are still unfamiliar with, or do not accept, digital diplomas, students without a Norwegian national identity number will receive a paper degree certificate.

Graduating students who have applied for employment or further study abroad and require a paper diploma must request one by 1 June in order for the paper version to be issued by 1 July.

Lost diploma

If you have lost your paper diploma and require a copy, you may request a duplicate certificate for a fee of NOK 625.

Please note that your degree certificate is always available digitally through the Diploma Registry (Vitnemålsportalen).

Certified copy of your diploma

If you require a certified copy (true copy) of your diploma, you must print a copy yourself and visit the Student Service Centre in Halden or Fredrikstad to have it stamped and certified.

If you are unable to print the copy yourself, a printing fee will apply.

Documentation in English

If you have completed a study programme taught in Norwegian, you diploma will be issued in Norwegian. In addition, you will receive a Diploma Supplement, an English-language supplement to your diploma, which you can use when applying for further study or employment abroad. The Diploma Supplement describes the qualification you have completed and the Norwegian higher education system.

The digitally signed diploma and Diploma Supplement are valid only in digital form.

If you require the degree certificate itself to be translated into English, and the Diploma Supplement is not sufficient for your purposes, you will be responsible for arranging and covering the cost of the translation yourself.

For completed study programmes taught in English, you receive your diploma in English.

Freely combined (open) bachelor's degree

A freely combined (individual/open)) Bachelor's degree is a 180-credit degree that you compile yourself within certain requirements and limitations.

If you meet the requirements for a freely combined Bachelor's degree, you may apply for a Bachelor's degree diploma.
