Plagiarism screening of your thesis

Master’s theses are subject to plagiarism screening.

The use of AI-generated material without appropriate citation and referencing will be regarded as attempted academic misconduct.

Information specific to the master's thesis

You must familiarise yourself with the rules concerning confidential information and consent to the publication of your thesis.

Confidential information

You must indicate whether your thesis contains any confidential information (subject to a duty of secrecy).

Master’s theses containing confidential information will not be made available for public access and will not be published in the university’s open institutional repository. Confidentiality (cf. Section 13 of the Norwegian Public Administration Act) apply, among other things, where the thesis contains:

  • information concerning an individual's personal circumstances
  • information relating to technical devices, methods, operational matters, or business affairs where confidentiality is of competitive importance to the party concerned
  • Confidential information, that the student has obtained from a public administrative body
  • information received from private individuals under a promise of confidentiality in connection with study or research work

Consent to publication of the thesis

You must decide whether you wish to permit the publication of your thesis in the Norwegian National Research Archive (NVA). Consent can be given on the cover sheet in WISEflow.

Licence agreement

By accepting this agreement, you consent to the submitted document being made available in the institutional repository.

Your master's thesis may be used within the limits set by the Norwegian Copyright Act, including being referenced, linked to, cited, printed, and downloaded.

master's theses are generally considered public documents. This means that Østfold University of Applied Sciences may grant access to master's theses archived in the institution's records management system, even if the thesis has not been published in the institutional repository.

If the thesis is subject to a restricted access agreement (for example, because it contains sensitive information or publication has been deferred by agreement), access to the thesis will not be granted through the records management system.

Publication of the thesis

On the cover sheet you must confirm whether you consent to the publication of your thesis.

  • If you answer yes, you consent to your Master's thesis being made available in the institutional repository, provided that it receives a grade of E or higher.
  • If you answer No, you confirm that the thesis should not be published. You should select this option if your thesis contains sensitive personal data.

NB!: Even if you answer no, metadata such as the title of the thesis, abstract, and author's name will still be published.

Delay the publication

You may choose to delay (postpone) the publication of your thesis.

You may request delayed publication in the institutional repository for reasons other than a duty of secrecy. For example, this may be appropriate if you intend to develop the material further for another publication or a scholarly publication.

You may delay the publication of your thesis for up to ten years.
