Design Thinking through Performative Art

We are pleased to host Julia FROMM, a multidisciplinary artist and researcher at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, and a DOC Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her current research focuses on tactile design for adolescents with chronic pain. We invites students and faculty at Østfold University College to experience a fresh, art‑based approach to design thinking. The session foregrounds empathetic exchange, deep listening, and intersubjective understanding as practical design capacities that bridge sensing and making.

Short description: Translating embodied knowledge into actionable visual‑auditory cues can help convey essential signals and assist in practically applying and adapting them to social innovation design contexts. Exploring an art‑based design‑thinking approach to bridging the gap in discerning non‑verbal expressions through performative art, the lecture examines how brief ASMR‑style sound cues, combined with performative gestures and tactile artefacts, foster empathetic exchange, deep listening and intersubjective understanding.
