Completing the 50% PhD Seminar at UiS

We congratulate Associate Professor John-Erik Andreassen with completing his 50% PhD Seminar. Monday 17 February he presented his research on Autopoiesis: The brigde from biology to strategic management. The opponent was Thomas Laudal, Associate Professor of International Business Strategies at the University of Stavanger Business School.

Professor Elin Merethe Oftedal UiS is the main advisor and Associate Professor Gunnar Andersson (HiØ) is the co-advisor.

The setup followed the usual approach at UiS:

  • 10-15 minutes for John-Erik to introduce his work
  • 40-45 minutes for Thomas to provide comments and feedback to John-Erik.
  • 10 minutes for questions and comments from the rest of the attendees

The purpose of his work is to explore how a biological approach, such as autopoiesis, can be used to understand and enhance organizational innovation models, business models (BM) and workplace innovation (WI). To achieve this objective, this research aims to develop an analytical framework that applies autopoiesis as dimension of radical constructivism, demonstrating how biological perspectives can be transferred to organizational innovation models for implementing business strategy. The framework is then applied to the practice of autopoietic and allopoietic processes affecting BM and WI models in organizational innovation.

The supervisors approved the progress and a plan for the 90% Seminar. We congratulate John-Erik.
