SIG2: AI in Physical Education and Sports Coaching (AI4PSC)

The Special Interest Group (SIG 2) on AI in Physical Education and Sports Coaching is dedicated to exploring the role of artificial intelligence and digital technology in enhancing coaching and teaching practices across various levels, including youth sports, professional athletics, fitness training, rehabilitation, and physical education. This group focuses on the intersection of AI and technology, and sports science to improve performance analysis, personalised training programs, decision-making processes in coaching, and learning in physical education.

Our mission is to investigate how AI and technology can support coaches, athletes, and sports organisations, physical education teachers and students by providing data-driven insights, optimising training and learning regimens, and offering real-time feedback to enhance athletic performance, injury prevention and learning. At the same time, SIG 2 critically examines the ethical implications, data privacy concerns, and the evolving role of human expertise in AI-assisted coaching.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Performance Analysis: Utilising AI to analyse player and team performance through video analysis, biomechanics, and data tracking.
  • Personalised Coaching: Developing AI-driven models to tailor training plans to individual athletes' needs, goals, and progress.
  • Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation: Exploring how AI can detect patterns that indicate potential injuries and aid in recovery strategies.
  • Decision Support Systems: Enhancing tactical and strategic decision-making through AI-assisted insights and predictive analytics.
  • Wearable Technologies & Monitoring: Leveraging AI-powered wearables to track performance metrics, workload, and recovery.
