About the project

ACE-TL21 (Advancing Education – Commercialising Essay Assessment Technology) aims to further develop and commercialise EAT – an AI-based assessment technology for student essays. EAT provides automatic, personalised feedback on students' language, content, structure, and organisation in their texts. The technology is designed to support teachers in formative assessment practices and help students develop writing skills and self-regulated learning. By automating parts of the assessment process, EAT frees up time for teachers to focus on teaching and learning support. The project aims to ensure wide accessibility through collaboration with EdTech partners and integration into learning platforms. The goal is to enhance the quality of education and provide all students with access to constructive, pedagogically grounded feedback – regardless of school or resources.

Objectives

ACE-TL21 has three primary objectives:

  1. Further develop and validate the EAT technology to a level where it can be deployed in practice. This involves technological enhancement and pilot testing to ensure reliable, pedagogically relevant feedback on students’ language, content, structure and organisation in their texts.

  2. Demonstrate market viability by securing at least five paying customers within one year of project completion, thereby evidencing both demand for and willingness to pay for the technology in the education sector.

  3. Establish strategic commercial partnerships to enable broad distribution and integration of EAT across diverse learning platforms and educational settings.

Additionally, the project will support teacher professional development, uphold ethical standards and devise a sustainable commercialisation strategy with an emphasis on accessibility and societal benefit.
