Academic interests
Nazareth's primary interest is in linguistics and language didactics. Her research focuses on morphosyntax, lexical semantics, and computational grammars, especially on syntactic functions such as subject and object alignment with semantic arguments, including agent, theme, recipient, beneficiary, experiencer, and others. The language phenomena that are addressed in her work include applicative, causative, passive, and experiencer constructions. In didactics, learners' language, language variation, and grammar teaching/learning are addressed.

Background
Nazareth earned her Bachelor's degree in Language Studies at the University of Asmara in Eritrea in 1996 and her MA in English Language Teaching at Lancaster University, UK, in 1998. Her MA thesis dealt with the use of epistemic modality in argumentative essays of Second-language writers. She undertook her PhD study at the University of Bergen, and her thesis investigated Applicative constructions and how they are dealt with in Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG) based on data from Tigrinya.
