Language in the individual and society (LIS) is interested in language as a cognitive, embodied and social phenomenon and in how these aspects interrelate. The members of the group work with different theoretical and methodological approaches and within a variety of languages, such as Norwegian, Norwegian Sign Language, Old Norse, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Latin and Tigrinya.

Our research topics include language learning and language acquisition - grammar, pragmatics and grammar didactics - language ideologies, multilingualism and language in society - interaction, multimodality and multisensoriality.

Our approaches and fields include discourse analysis, conversation analysis, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, datalinguistics and psycholinguistics.

We welcome all researchers with interests that coincide with the group's.
