My research is concerned with historical linguistics, comparative Scandinavian syntax, and heritage linguistics. My dissertation (Gothenburg 2009) is about the development of the perfect tense in the history of Swedish. I had a postdoc position at the Textlaboratory, University of Oslo, in 2011, and, after that, I was a researcher at the Department of Swedish and multilingualism, University of Stockholm. Between 2014 and 2020, I was a professor of Scandinavian Linguistics at the University of Oslo.
Since 2011, I have been involved in projects about American Swedish and Norwegian. I am currently a member of the projectgroup for the project Norwegian across the Americas, led by Kari Kinn (UiB).
I lead the project Variation and change in the Scandinavian Verb Phrase funded by the Research council of Norway 2016–2022. As part of the project, we have developed the Nordic Word Order Database (NWD).
I am the scientific director of the research programme ELLA which is part of the strategic initiative Language in Learning at HiØ.
