Overview of the academic field

DigiHealth consists of researchers from the Faculty for health, welfare and organization. The faculty is led by Dean Randi Magnus Sommerfelt and is located at both campuses, Fredrikstad and Halden. The faculty has about 130 employees and 2000 students divided among the two institutes.

DigiHealth is built on a broad understanding of health as a biopsychosocial phenomenon. This means that health is not reduced to the diagnosis and treatment of the disease in a health context, but encompasses all aspects of people's everyday livers, such as school, work, interactions on digital platforms. With this starting point, health-related questions are explored as bodily experiences in a wider context where social, relational and material conditions come into play.  DigiHealth was established on the basis of existing research, and the emphasis of health as an important research field within the priority area The Digital Society

DigiHealth includes and promotes research on a range of topics within nursing, public health and welfare. Aspects of technological transformation, the development and implementation of digital technologies in health and welfare sector and how this affects people's lives, especially with regard to shared decision-making, empowerment and marginalization are topics that are explored. Ongoing projects study how digitalization processes trigger new ways of acting and interacting in the health and welfare sector. Based on the perspectives of  stakeholders, issues on how technological development and new digital tools can lead to better health, increased autonomy and independence are also discussed.  Ethical perspectives on digitalization in the health and welfare sector are also a central focus.

The academic communities in DigiHealth publish, among other things, systematic literature reviews and further develop education med collaborative projects with other institutions, nationally and internationally.
