Academic interests
1. Qualitative inquiry and the politics of that inquiry.
- The development and impact of qualitative inquiry able to assist in understanding social inequalities
- The rise of metrics and altmetrics and what this means for the way that research and research performance is thought about.
- Mixed methods, multiple methods and research programs.
2. Intersections between people and the organisational and social contexts in which they live and work. Intersections such as:
- Structured social inequalities and the refraction of them in light of neo-liberal influenced management and organisational change.
- The rise of metrics and altmetrics and what this means for the way that work and work place performance is thought about, and the way that health and higher education is organised and managed.

Extensive experience in PhD and Masters by Research supervision and examination. Currently co-supervisor for 2 PhD students.
Editorial and Advisory Board Memership
- On the international advisory board for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th editions of the Sage Handbook of Qualitative Research (Norman Denzin and Yvonna Lincoln editors published by Sage out of the US).
- On the External Advisory Board for the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry now in its 13th year – inaugural member of the 14 member Board- present.
- Past vice president (2010-2012) of the International Association of Qualitative Inquiry based in the US.
- One of 5 Associate editors of Qualitative Health Research (Sage US) and on the Boards of several other journals.
- Scientific Committee Member. European Congress of Qualitative Inquiry. Belgium, February 2017, 2018 and UK 2019
- Member of International Interdisciplinary Editorial Advisory Board for the Sage Handbook of Qualitative Research Design to be published 2021 edited by Professor Uwe Flick.
