Background: In this study, we have used drama as a pedagogical strategy to facilitate students work with their research questions related to their master thesis in psychosocial work. This strategy creates and promotes a transdisciplinary team approach, as the group of students represents a variety of professions with different perspectives and creates an interdisciplinary discussion. Aim: To describe and analyse the use of drama and Enhanced Forum Theatre (EFT) as a teaching strategy to activate the student's practice-based knowledge when exploring challenges in various psychosocial fields to identify and define research questions for their master theses. Method: A qualitative approach is used, consisting of the researchers' participatory and field observations of a one-day drama workshop. Three role plays were prepared and performed as EFT. Results: The staging of EFT from real life experiences made professional knowledge available for group discussion and analysis. The process induced a transdisciplinary exploration of identified challenges together with possible research questions being elaborated upon. Issues of power, marginalisation, vulnerability and empowerment in the psychosocial fields became visible and tangible in a direct and relevant way across the plays. Value: To our knowledge, EFT has not been applied before with the objective to develop research questions for master's theses in health and welfare studies/psychosocial work.

This article highlights the perceptions and expectations of knowledge that many people, including educators and policy makers, take for granted. Our focus of understanding is Indigenous studies and gender studies. Our aim is to show how modern education undermines these fields of studies. We use an autoethnographic method, reflecting more than 75 years as pupils/students and more than 90 years as educators. We have carefully chosen narratives of exposure to knowledge outside the educational system, as well as narratives of limitations posed upon us by the educational system. This narrative approach makes it possible for us to investigate and discuss our grief about areas of knowledge that society cries for, but the educational system continuously finds ways to resist. Our conclusion is that crucial knowledge is located outside the educational system, where individuals, groups, and communities cherish, protect, and guard knowledge that the educational system marginalises or excludes. As this knowledge is fundamental for life, our message is that the educational system needs to re-evaluate its strategies to stay relevant.

This paper will explain the concept of double perspective and the impact that this cultural understanding may have on the health of the Indigenous peoples of Scandinavia. In inter-cultural communication, one set of meanings may be discernible to the outsider while a whole extra set of restricted or underlying meanings are only accessible for those people who have the cultural knowledge to discern them. These different sets of meanings embody a double perspective. It is not dual perspectives on the same reality but rather seeing two separate but overlapping realities. We will discuss the layers of meaning which are involved in the interactions between public healthcare institutions, clinicians and staff, and Indigenous people including the Sámi. These interactions are influenced by the impact of colonization and the ongoing epistemicide of Indigenous thought. By realising the improved resilience that a double perspective brings to Indigenous peoples, an awareness of the inclusion and exclusion of Indigenous persons, cultures and histories should become established in public institutions and in everyday life. A double perspective carries Sámi resilience, and should be understood as a key to support individual health, and also the collective wellbeing of a people living on their traditional yet colonized land.

This essay critically examines Peter Beyer’s system-theoretical definition of religion, his concept of the function of religion in global society, and his definition of global core values. The empirical examples used for this critique illustrate how religion serves as a resource in public debate, and how academics use religion to explain public opinions and attitudes. They focus on genetic science and technology, noting references to myths and religious heritage The concept of myth as an analytical tool in analyses of the European barometer surveys is also examined, while tracing the history of ideas behind public opinion on genetic science and gene technology in Europe and the USA. In contrast to Beyer’s analysis, the core values at stake are not the (neo-)liberal values which he claims represent global society, i.e. equality, progress, justice, but rather sustainability, the relation between past, present and future life, and concerns about the undisputable framework of life and death, which overlap with classical theological projects. When references to myth and religion are made, they appear useful in the context of modern genetic science and gene technology because they are not about belief. Instead, such references appear closely tied to memories of recent history, to modern wartime science and modern big science failure. Since the empirical examples represent interpretative processes, system theories are unsuited to my analysis. To understand how references to religious texts and heritage work I use a classical hermeneutical stance rooted in philosophy and religious studies. My methodological conclusion is that hermeneutics offers a relevant perspective for the analysis of how religion works in discussions of science and new technology in the globalized world.

Science, research and emerging technologies often play a key role in many modern action movies. In this contribution we suggest to use genre analysis of folk narratives as an innovative and useful tool for understanding science and technology in action movies. In this contribution we outline our approach using illustrative examples and detail how understanding action movies as modern fairy tales can benefit the study of science, research and technology in popular culture.

This paper presents insights from four years of interdisciplinary discussions and analysis focusing on the complex and multidimensional character of the relationship between culture and ethics. Our approach to culture is one which seeks to understand how values we know as cultural – that is embedded in and emergent from particular locations and groupings of people who develop shared understandings over time – are part of how groups are recognised (or denied), how knowledge is produced and understood, how people understand their position in the world and how history and change influence the boundaries between cultures and the differential valuing of cultures. Our overall claim is that cultural dynamics are embedded in all areas of cultural analysis and bioethical or ethical debate. What the paper produces is a case for seeing culture as a vital component to how we debate science and ethics and indicates several ways this can be done analytically and methodologically. The value of the interdisciplinary analyses captured in the domains we discuss is that they draw out the interrelated nature of the practices associated with „culture‟, „ethics‟ and „science‟. Drawing out such interrelationships is an important stage in thinking through the questions of justice, rights and power, that each of us in our different fields see as vital to our research practice. We share a conviction of the need for inter-/trans-disciplinary evaluations of our own disciplines, in order to make visible the culture of Dominant research that resist forms of analysis that question how things are done and why. We also recognise the need to constantly question our own cultural positionings within our disciplines and our society and how we are located within power relations from which we may receive benefit.

How Folklore May Contribute to Brain Research and Neuroscience?
The International Brain Initiative (IBI) has established a new cross-cultural working group (WG). The overall aim of the WG is to bring in non-westernized strategies and ways of knowing and
learning to ensure inclusive and global neuroscience. To include or merge specific institutions, communities and traditions that are themselves subject to organic processes is productive. Though merging the fields of medicine, in particular brain research, with culture, has a
well-known and controversial past. This presentation discusses the questions why and how to approach culture as an empirical field, analytical strategy, and theoretical perspective relevant for present neuroscience.

Presentation: The on-line web as an arena for individual strong voices. On personal narratives, addiction and resistance
This presentation focuses on personal psychosocial narratives told by known and unknown individuals, under their full name and in traditional news media with, i.e. an editorial policy and investigating journalism as its prime brand. The presentation start of by introduce this particular genre and relate it to the CMJ discussion on Knowledge Landscapes (KL). In this presentation it has been of interest that the theme discussed varies immensely, and can focus on for example addiction, or depression, or suicide attempts, or suicide committed by someone close to the narrator. Some of these stories will be presented and the argument is that they, as a whole, constitute a specific genre in present digital society.
The aim of the presentation is to further discuss the personal narrative as an agent, how it is transported on-line and of-line, and its relation, or lack of relation, to established KL fields. This part will be presented in the form of suggested communication models, meant to generate discussion and thus further conceptual clarification. An underlying ambition is to elaborate on two theoretically argued for understandings of narratives and texts in present society. In part, discourse analysis will be discussed, and the discussion is pushed by the question “is discourse analysis the best way to understand these particular psychosocial narratives?” In part phenomenology will be discussed, though for a different reason. Phenomenology is a key theoretical starting point in health research using qualitative methodologies (interviews in particular). Thus narratives/interviews analysed from a phenomenological point of view will usually limit its explanatory ambition to the individual’s feelings and subjective perspective. This as if the narrative told does not carry knowledge.
Thus three things will be interrelated in the presentation and discussed in relation to concrete examples of personal psychosocial narratives presented in traditional news media:
• Is it analytically helpful and theoretically motivated to define personal psychosocial narratives in traditional news media a genre?
• How to we include these particular personal health narratives in models of communication in present digital society?
• How do our theoretical understanding and use of discourse analysis and phenomenology affect our understanding of the content and function of these particular health narratives?
Key words: Health narratives and digital society; bio-psychosocial ; discourse analysis, phenomenology, knowledge landscapes
