The Machine Learning research group at Østfold University College consists of a mix of scientific staff, master and doctoral students and external members from partners, e.g. local businesses. Our work covers the whole spectrum from basic research and theoretical work to developing practical large-scale machine learning algorithms that are widely used in industry.
We focus on the following strategic areas:
Artificial Intelligence in Bio-Health
We conduct research using clinical data and in bio-informatics, in particular for decision support and prediction.
Biologically Inspired Artificial Intelligence, both basic and applied research
We have a particular focus on evolutionary computation including swarm intelligence and natural computing applied to healthcare, industrial optimization, and fake news detection. In addition, we conduct basic research in neuroAI, neural networks, and general intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence in Education
We conduct research on how AI methods can impact on the future of education.
Artificial Intelligence for text recognition from different media
We have particular expertise in text recognition form different sources, including handwritten documents, printed text, historical documents, images and videos.
