Yaroslava Sazonova: The Effects of Postcolonial Consciousness in Horror Literature
The research focuses on the effect of cultural-historical extra-lingual factors that influenced the creation of Ukrainian and Anglo-phone horror texts. The object of the analysis is the lingual-textual representation of subjects-sources of fear in them. Here, we rely on the ideas of S. Hay (“historical trauma” in ghost stories) and A. J. Greimas and J. Fontanille (polemic structures that determine the world of emotions). It is worth examining how both Ukraine (a formerly colonized country) and Great Britain (a formerly colonial empire) have developed failed narratives that help us understand the traumatic experience and the similarities and differences of living it through.
