Conversations about American literature
We warmly invite upper secondary English teachers from across Norway to join our online reading group for a year of engaging discussions about American literature.
Together, we will explore a diverse selection of novels and memoirs that have sparked debate, been challenged in schools, or played an important role in conversations about identity, freedom of expression, and democracy.
The group will meet on Zoom on the first Wednesday of each month, from 19:00–20:30, between October 2026 and May 2027.
Registration
You are welcome to register for individual sessions or for multiple sessions.
- Each session is limited to 15 participants.
- Priority will be given to those registering for four or more sessions.
- Books will be sent to confirmed participants in advance, except Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which is freely available online.
We look forward to reading, reflecting, and learning together throughout the year.
What to expect
Each session offers an opportunity to:
- Discuss a selected work of American literature with fellow teachers
- Explore the historical, political, and cultural contexts surrounding the text
- Examine why and how certain books have been challenged in the United States
- Share perspectives on topics such as democracy, freedom of expression, identity, and censorship
- Gather ideas, resources, and approaches for use in the English classroom
Whether you join us for one session or several, you'll become part of a supportive community of educators interested in literature, learning, and meaningful dialogue.
