Health and Welfare in the Digital Society (DigiHealth)

The research group "Health and Welfare in the Digital Society" initiates, conducts, and disseminates research on the significance of digitalization in health and welfare contexts.

The aim of the research group

The research group Health and Welfare in the Digital Society has a strong and distinct research profile aligned with HiØ’s strategic focus area “The Digital Society.”

The group’s main objective is to contribute interdisciplinary, socially relevant, and/or profession-oriented knowledge about how digital technologies and society mutually influence each other, with a focus on three overarching areas:

  • The subjective and embodied experiences of individuals and groups in a digitalised society and their encounters with digital health and welfare services.
  • The work, collaboration, and competencies of health and welfare professionals, and the conditions for their current and future roles and development.
  • Innovation and development in health and welfare services and public health efforts, both within and across sectors and service levels.

The research draws on perspectives from nursing, public health science, and humanities and social scientific traditions such as critical psychology, social psychology, sociology, social anthropology, and media studies.

An additional key goal is for the research to strengthen HiØ’s educational programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. levels. This is ensured in part through the group members’ responsibility for and/or teaching in:

  • The Ph.D. course “Digital Health and Psychosocial Well-being”, offered within the Ph.D. program Digitalisation and Society.
  • The course “Digitalisation and Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Health and Welfare” for all bachelor-level health and welfare programs.

Members of the research group also supervise master’s and Ph.D. projects that are thematically relevant to the Ph.D. program.
