The IMMERSIVE-ROOM is a physical, interactive VR arena in SimFredrikstad that explores how VR simulations can promote learning and collaboration in higher education. The project investigates the design of such simulations and how they can contribute to engagement and the understanding of complex concepts

In today’s rapidly changing educational landscape, higher education institutions face significant societal challenges. They must adapt to the digital age and educate future professionals who are equipped to address the increasingly complex and global issues confronting society.

At SimFredrikstad, we have established a high technology virtual learning environment within a physical space (an IMMERSIVE-ROOM) designed to support collaborative learning. Animations and real world video footage are projected onto the walls, and game based technologies drive scenarios forward through interactive hotspots integrated into the environment. This creates a learning universe that exceeds what is possible in traditional simulation. The room is a space of possibilities, with the potential to revolutionize fields where conventional simulation is combined with virtual environments. Here, the invisible becomes visible and the abstract becomes concrete.

The project investigates the design of various types of VR simulations, the collaborative learning experience within the room, and whether the technology can help increase motivation and improve learning outcomes
