Norwegian Theatre Academy receives millions in funding from UTFORSK

Østfold University College - NTA is one of 13 Norwegian Universities and Colleges that will receive funding for a total 90 millions NOK (for the next 3 years) from the Norwegian Government for international cooperation in the field of education.

 

More specifically, Norwegian Theatre Academy (NTA) will receive 2.8 million in support for its project "Sea Matters : A Performance Research Pedagogy Laboratory". The project will start in January 2023 and will end in December 2026. The funds are distributed through UTFORSK programme (HK-dir).

HK-dir received 73 eligible applications from 14 higher education institutions in Norway within the deadline, 24. April 2022, at 12:00. The total amount applied for was approximately 212 MNOK, and the available amount was 90 MNOK. 30 applications were selected for funding for an allocation rate of 41 %.

Transatlantic storytelling

SEA MATTERS is a performance research pedagogy laboratory based on shared transatlantic storytelling, artistic actions and listening practices between Østold University College and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Aims include fostering student-led research on artistic and pedagogical proposals across borders where ecology, social justice and performance are connected. Topics are informed by these two nations deeply impacted by complex transatlantic histories.

 

The project will include: dialogue, art projects, sharings, arstistic actions, workshops, speculative new curriculum design, residencies and an online archive of works, all sharing the topics of “Sea Matters”.

 

In the assessment, the application stands: «as strengthening the international partnerships between the two higher educational institution in Norway and Brazil within areas of mutual interest, contributing to joint arenas for knowledge development and -sharing together with knowledge development and sharing between academia and non-academic partners. It also involves joint educational activities, integration of higher education and research, joint student exchange and synergies to other European funding schemes, such as the Swedish Research council.»

 

Strengthening Research

The funds distributed through UTFORSK is meant to support Norwegian cooperation with Brazil, India, Japan. China, South Africa, South Korea, USA and Canada.

"These projects will strengthen Norway as a research nation. I am happy to see that the supported projects will have an impact students and that more of them will be able to go on exchange to the above mentioned countries - our priority partner countries".This is what the Minister for Research and Higher Education, Ola Borten Moe said in a press release about the fund. "It is pleasing to see that the project links education, research and working life more closely together. It is also positive that several have practice as a large part of their project, and that 20 per cent of the students will therefore have work practice as part of their exchange" says the director of the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills, Sveinung Skule in the press release.
