Completed project

Urban and Rural Performance Spaces

To challenge the institutional habits, assumptions and methods of conceptualizing/constructing performances and scenographies shaped by “invisible” local limitations or norms that might only come into visibility via contact with difference or displacement. To develop out of that confrontation a deeper ethical consideration for how our process is informed by the “unseen” or “taken for granted” in space - and possibly, its impact on how our students relate to their locale. The project is based on an exchange of two acting and scenography teachers/professors from both universities, along with two groups of BA students (both actors and scenographers). By bringing together students from Norwegian Theatre Academy and Tisch School of the Arts/NYU who work in very different locations and urban contexts, we want to exchange ideas about differences in process as linked to the seemingly invisible or given constraints or demands of our unique environments.
