Bank account

If you are staying in Norway for longer than six months, we recommend that you open a Norwegian bank account. This also applies if you are using the temporary deposit account.

In order to open a bank account in Norway, you will firstly need a Norwegian national identity number. To get this, you must register in the National Registry.

Once you receive your national identity number, you can contact the bank of your choice and ask for instructions on how to open an account. In most cases, you will need to make an appointment with the nearest branch and bring the following documentation:

  • Your passport
  • Your Norwegian national identity number
  • Your residence permit (non-EU/EEA)/registration certificate (EU/EEA)
