Learning objectives
Pupils should be able to
- identify 15 American monuments,
- ask other pupils questions in English
- write a short paragraph in English
Resources:
- Power Point Presentation about American Monuments
- Appendix 1 American Monuments worksheet
- Appendix 2 American Monuments oral activity
Teacher preparations:
- Prepare the Power Point presentation
- Print Appendix 1 and 2 according to the number of pupils
Plan for lesson:
- Show Power Point presentation about American monuments. Pupils complete Appendix 1 about the monuments.
- Pupils put Appendix 1 away and the teacher gives the pupils a different worksheet - Appendix 2. Pupils stand up and ask different classmates for answers to the questions on this worksheet. This is an oral exercise, and pupils cannot use their Appendix 1.
- Finally, pupils write a short paragraph on what monument they would like to visit in the United States and explain why.
Reflection and assessment:
- Pupils are answering questions in the Appendix 1. To what degree are the pupils able to answer the questions in Appendix 1? Can pupils create their own questions about the monuments?
- Pupils are asking classmates questions in the Appendix 2. Can the pupils ask and answer the questions in Appendix 2? What questions are difficult for the pupils?
- Appendix 2 can be turned in for assessment.
Comments and follow-up that may lead to deeper learning:
Pupils can select one of the monuments as a topic for a project.
