Digital transformation in schools remains a major challenge, especially with rapid AI-driventechnological chang and school leaders play a crucial role in this process. Workshops

Through a series of workshops, school leaders and teacher educators will analyse digital transformation needs and develop tailored action plans. The project employs scenario development as a key methodology, enabling school leaders to anticipate and respond to future digital challenges. These workshops serve as the project’s core, fostering knowledge exchange and strategic planning.

The physical workshops focus on the school leaders' work with digital transformation. Scenario development will be a key method used in the workshops to help school leaders make strategic decisions. This approach, commonly used in future studies, helps leaders navigate the complexities of digital transformation by exploring different possible futures. Rather than predicting what will happen, scenario development creates structured stories that highlight key uncertainties and possible outcomes (Bishop & Hines, 2012). By asking "what if" questions, school leaders can better understand future challenges and opportunities. This method encourages big-picture thinking, which is crucial for managing digital transformation in education. It helps school leaders consider not just classroom practices but also how their decisions align with policies and long-term goals. Additionally, it fosters collaboration by creating a shared understanding among different stakeholders in the Nordic education system.

During the workshops, participants will follow key steps in scenario development: identifying important factors driving change, recognizing critical uncertainties, building possible future scenarios, and developing practical strategies. This process ensures that school leaders are not just reacting to current challenges but are also prepared to shape the future of education.

The phycisal workshops (Sweden: Umeå, Iceland: Reykavik, Norway: Halden) are open for local school leaders.

Resources for school leader professional development

Throughout the project we share teaching materials, workshop designs and scenarios to be freely used for school leaders professional development in different settings.

Research

The partners from higher education institutions aim to add a reserach layer to the project. Research on school leaders and digital transformation is an emerging field and remains relatively scarce. During the workshops, the researchers will observe and interview the school leaders in the core group to gain insights into their perspectives, challenges, and potential strategies for digitalization across the Nordic countries. The ultimate goal is to enrich the broader educational discourse with these findings.
